Blockbuster mangaka Shūhō Satō was so disgusted by the exploitation he endured at the hands of big publishers that he exposed them in a series of damaging online revelations, and then started his own online manga distribution service in competition.

An idol iPhone app which allowed users to tear the clothes off a selection of saucy idols has fallen foul of the puritans at Apple – as usual Apple gives no explanation for the ban, although rather than bullying an independent software developer, this time they have picked a fight with heavyweight publisher Kodansha.

Major manga publisher Kodansha have begun free online distribution of a manga under the terms of the Creative Commons license, a first. Kodansha’s CC terms stipulate free reproduction of the title as long as it is “non-commercial”, unchanged and maintains attribution – they are even encouraging blogs to reproduce the title.
