To honor the new year, multitudes of otaku have made pilgrimages to Shinto shrines for the privilege of scrawling (and in some cases, elegantly sketching) their wishes upon ema, (small wooden votive plaques) with the majority of their divine prayers being anime-centric – as is now classic Japanese tradition.
