NicoNico Douga to be Japan’s National Infrastructure

Nishimura (2ch founder) on the left, with his taskmaster Natsuno watching over him to try to stop him spending any more investor cash

NicoNico Douga bosses 夏野剛 / Takeshi Natsuno (a seasoned seller of mobile phone melodies parachuted in to try to stop the cash haemorrhage at Nico’s managing firm Niwango) and 西村博之 / Hiroyuki Nishimura (no less a man than the founder of 2ch and now Nico honcho) have given a most interesting interview on the future and past of NicoNico.

Much is revealed of their plans for expansion; notably we hear they intend to see NicoNico become a part of the national infrastructure of Japan, that they intend a plan of overseas expansion, just as soon as they have dealt with the trifling matter of losing millions of dollars, and that, yes, the biggest challenge facing them may indeed be kowtowing to the intellectual property cartels without wiping their servers bare.

Kitten Stamper Hunted

Kitten Stamper Hunted

In a shocking act of wanton cruelty, a lady exhibiting considerable sadism has distributed videos of herself viciously torturing and then rather thoroughly killing an unfortunate kitten, stamping it into a bloody pulp, with eyes popping forth, in a disturbing re-enactment of similar acts of brazen cruelty a few years ago.

Nico Wipes Anime

This young lady in an act of domination is a fitting figurative representation of what has been done to Nico.

NicoNico Douga has prostrated itself before the might of Japanese intellectual property cartels such as the AJA, JVA and MPAA, and Nico maintainer Dwango is now their willing and obedient slave in all matters, we hear. They have supinely expunged all content the groups deem infringing (and not just limited to anime), so they must be excused if their servers are a little bare at present.

How to Buy a Japanese Girl – Cheap (and Real)

How to Buy a Japanese Girl – Cheap (and Real) - collared schoolgirl

The funeral pyre of Mainichi rag WaiWai has blazed into a general conflagration of infernal proportions, with the spectres of innumerable lawsuits for slander and calumny eagerly circling it, and the latest pick of their dubious articles will not see the heat abate any time soon – all 2ch is gleefully heaping fuel onto the fire, so here is the latest article of controversy.

1¢ Cola at Amazon – Hundreds Delivered

Amazon has recently been selling this Coca Cola (alas you are too late to partake) for the princely sum of ¥1 per can; it is genuine (if “No Calorie” can be called this), comes in 350ml cans and otherwise appears not to be some Chinese chemical effluent – the only disadvantage to buying (apart from the taste) is the lady’s picture with which the can is emblazoned. Buy only 1500 cans and you can get free shipping!

Server Haet Raep

Lain and computers - Serial Experiments Lain, by 安倍吉俊 / Yoshitoshi Abe

As you may have noticed, there have been some disruptions to Sankaku Complex’s hosting, basically a consequence of healthy traffic growth: in this respect I suppose it could it could be taken as an indicator of success, but I must still offer my apologies to those inconvenienced; your forebearance and understanding in this matter are greatly appreciated.

The change in platform (it is a mystery to me how Apache became market leader considering its abysmal performance in certain situations, and I also find it strange that opcode caching isn’t a standard feature of PHP) should be able to accommodate future growth without difficulty, and will enable continued improvements, so hopefully no further problems will be evident. If you do happen to have any problems or suggestions, please do not hesitate to make them known.

  • Anonymous commented on December 6, 2009 22:16

Internet Censorship Bill Passes

The main meeting hall of the Diet of Japan in Tokyo. Wikimedia image.

The previously discussed efforts to protect the children from the wickedness of the Internet, by censoring their access to it, are set to become law, having passed with the unanimous assent of the House of Representatives (lower house, the one with most of the power); it will go before the House of Councillors next week, and then fully come into effect.

Girl Kills Self Due to “Die!” Comment on Blog

Just imagine it the opposite way round - Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

A 16 year old girl committed suicide, hanging herself, apparently in response to a “Die!” comment on her blog, leaving little doubt as to her motivation with a will laying stating her pains. She was said to be in shock after some earlier problems with classmates, and was taking a break from school, so it may be that this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Japanese Democrats to Censor Internet, Ban Adult Games?

Harmful information removed

Not content with one of their number hysterically proposing adult games be subject to severe censorship, now the Democratic Party of Japan (the main leftist opposition party) has proposed a regime of mandatory inspection and authorisation for sites containing “harmful” information, obligating PC manufacturers and cell phone companies to install filtering software, with harmful sites judged by some sort of NGO. Naturally, this move is to protect children from the evils of the Internet.
