Police have arrested a woman suspected of tricking an otaku into giving her some $50,000 to cover the couple’s imminent marriage, after which the man promptly committed suicide.
Further investigations revealed three other men connected with the woman had died under mysterious circumstances, in a case police are treating as murder.
Update: Now it appears no less than 6 men connected with the woman died or committed suicide, and we learn that the woman, a convicted fraudster, led a lavish lifestyle from which she swelled to just shy of 100kg…

A Japanese food retailer has attracted a storm of criticism after it set prosecutors on one of its part-time employees for making rice balls (onigiri) out of leftover rice due to be thrown out, accusing her of theft.
The legal assault was apparently intended to punish her for having the gall to submit a formal complaint about the company’s alleged non-payment of overtime owed.

A man who had been using top Evangelion animator Takeshi Honda’s name to gain work at two universities has resigned after being exposed as a fake. He even had the gall to claim the real Honda was merely an apprentice of his being allowed to use the name.
He was unmasked after Khara, an anime studio founded by legendary director Hideaki Anno, launched an investigation after hearing that a man had been misusing the name of a Khara animator to gain work.
He had been working at his ill-gotten post for eight years without suspicion.
