The recently released, and highly anticipated, adult version of popular visual novel Little Busters, titled Little Busters! Ecstasy, piqued my interest, so let us take a look at how this turned out. Here is a modest selection of CG, highlighting the erotic upgrades.

The details of SP2 for 3D Custom Girl have been released. The previous patch certainly added some useful functionality, but this goes even further. Rather than being a mere bug fixing patch, functionality sure to revolutionise the creative potential of this title is added. Now you can realise cake of any dimensions, to say nothing of being able to create custom girls as slender or as voluptuous as you care to. Copious screens follow.

Two very interesting sites looking at the development of eroge in a historical context come to my attention. Firstly, and most strikingly, long time visual novel producer Alicesoft has actually officially authorised the distribution of many of their older titles (1990s) as abandonware; you can find them for direct download or torrent download, collected here. Secondly, there is a compendium of older eroge collected nicely with some CG (see below).

Covered in sweet milk? “SRPG” Tears to Tiara, which is shaping up to be a masterpiece visual novel in my opinion, somehow managed to get a CERO B rating in spite of scenes like this, which truly is heartening. More below.

Deceased illustrator 堀部秀郎 / Hiderou Horibe has been the subject of some unfortunate news, with his works being liberally plagiarised by Dengeki, who eventually apologised, but it is perhaps better we remember him as a talented illustrator whose promising career was cut short by illness, at the age of only 36. You can also see a cache of his homepage through the years.
A topical gallery for those curious about his work, or simply eager to see some talented and tasteful illustrations, or more carnal CG; below is “Yours”. Both his two artbooks are still available; the other is “Colors“. Below the artbook are some of his CG from 鬼作 / Kisaku, a 2001 eroge by Elf.

Dengeki have issued a platitudinous apology for their use of illustrations traced from deceased artist 堀部秀郎 / Hiderou Horibe’s works; they promise it won’t happen again (it has in fact happened several times previously, and they were most evasive in this case until exposed thoroughly on 2ch).

The much anticipated ティアーズ・トゥ・ティアラ / Tears to Tiara was recently released, and I braved the summer thunderstorms in a foray to Ikebukuro to pick up a copy; much to my surprise the kind folks at Bic Camera also saw fit to provide me with the preorder goody box, despite having not preordered or even bothered to buy the collector’s edition. Having had a chance to get into the game, I offer my impressions.

Is it me, or are the 3D Custom Girl recreations increasing in quality? Here we see Hatsune Miku posing alluringly to a quite good Vocaloid tune, all very tasteful.

Dengeki Playstation magazine stands accused of freely helping themselves to dead mangaka 堀部秀郎 / Hiderou Horibe’s illustrations, in what seems to be flagrant plagiarism of the cover illustration of a 2004 edition of eroge magazine PC Angel (see above), as well as other instances (below); whilst Horibe may have passed away two years ago, observant eyes spotted the traces, and Dengeki and publisher Ascii Media Works refuse to apologise or even respond to the allegations.

Hoping to break into (or rather, create) the English (or at least something approximating it) language market for bishoujo games/hentai games/eroge is new entrant MangaGamer (replete with a poorly designed Engrish site), with their site set to open for business on July 10th, offering digital download editions of a variety of less well known titles, to start with at least.

One of the characteristics of anime is the high propensity for titles to be converted from one medium to another; this trend has been especially notable in recent years with a flood of eroge and light novel adaptations to anime. But what of the actual numbers, and the relative comparison? Easily answered, it would seem.
