One of the most original and artistically accomplished, not to mention prolific, mangaka whose work I am familiar with is 唯 登詩樹 / Yui Toshiki; his work manages exceptional originality, both in terms of /d/ worthiness, as well as in terms of outright surrealness or artistic novelty. Not only this, but a large proportion of his works are produced in sumptuous colour…

Another mangaka of whom I have been a fan for many years now is 米倉けんご/Yonekura Kengo, whose magnum opus is indisputably Pink Sniper. Coupling great art with a story to match is a difficult feat, but in Pink Sniper I think this is accomplished admirably.

The excellent erotic manga Love Selection, by 如月群真 / Kisaragi Gunma, is due to get an anime adaptation for release at the end of August, produced by Pink Pineapple. This potentially great news somehow got buried at the bottom of one of Heisei Democracy’s ever informative updates.
I must admit that lately I have not been impressed with the output of some of these studios – it seems the need to appeal to a common denominator means less original works find themselves adapted, and those that do often suffer inferior or mediocre animation which hardly recommends itself over the original manga. Still, it is quite possible this will turn out well.

One of the more interesting mangaka to appear on the scene in recent years is 甚六/Jingrock (jinroku); his works are understandably popular, dealing as they do with such familiarly appealing themes as sex crazed high schoolers. In the hands of a less talented artist this might lead to run of the mill eromanga, but Jingrock manages a distinctive style with some distinctive elements, as well as amusing stories.

Another mangaka whose work I have been familiar with for some time is Cuvie, though in contrast with some of the other mangaka I have looked at I am ambivalent about her works. Still, I think anyone interested in reading undeniably popular works incorporating a great deal of skill, and prolifically undertaken, will be able to find something of interest amongst these works.

One of the most creative, if incredibly bizarre, if not maniacal, mangaka whose works I am familiar with is 桃山ジロウ/Momoyama Jirou, prolific creator of a long string of mainly BDSM themed manga, the content of which is conspicuous in originality and strangeness, even in a genre which is already saturated with such. If ever there was an artist whose works embodied the very animating spirit of /d/, it is he.

One of premier and most prolific mangaka dealing with futanari and the related themes of gender warping is ひねもすのたり / Hinemosunotari (also rendered as 終日庵), and he probably comes at or near the top of this particular sexual niche. Whether the genre appeals or not, it is not difficult to see why he has attained such popularity with his works, uniformly of a high standard and tightly focused on the prospect of hermaphroditic adventures as they are.

Okama is an artist who combines artistic talent with an evident flair for design; his portfolio as a designer in the world of anime now dwarfs his original works, though in my opinion they do not fully approach what he accomplished with the likes of Hanafuda, though this is perhaps unfairly applying my own taste – he is not really a pure mangaka, more of an artist, and he certainly is not restricted to the erotic themes I am focused on here.

A mangaka who has certainly succeeded in making an impression since his debut some years ago is 如月群真 / Kisaragi Gunma (or “gumma”), and anyone who sees his superb art will doubtless want to see more. Whilst the strength of his art is undeniable, it must however be said that his mastery is incomplete, as in terms of story and themes covered he shows some limitations. This is not to deny that he deserves recognition as a first rank ero-mangaka, as you can judge for yourself by reading on. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is a superior artist producing colour dojinshi of an amazing quality. It is none other than 石恵 / Ishikei, who may also be familiar to you as 偽MIDI泥の会 / NiseMIDIDoroNoKai. Not only does he produce colour CG work of rather shockingly good quality, he also tends to work with the most popular titles, such as Lucky Star, Haruhi, etc. If you have not already had the pleasure of viewing his work, then you may wish to rectify matters promptly, easily accomplished by reading on.

Saw this one a long time ago but was recently reminded of it, and refound the source – those panels are pure genius. The whole story is below, and is quite steamy.

Did you think tentacle porn was a recent development? Or, for that matter, erotic manga? Not at all, as Japan possesses a long and glorious history of erotic art going back centuries (as in fact do most cultures), called 春画 / Shunga, which flourished particularly during the reign of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
I came accross an interesting representative sample, and some of the themes may be familiar to you, though some are perhaps more bizarre than contemporary works (unless you spend much time on /d/, in which case these subjects will all be familiar to you). There is even an illustration of someone using an ancient dakimakura. I am mirroring most of the images below, though I leave the illustration of man and his faithful companion as a dubious incentive to visit the originating site, if you dare.
