A very successful example of an artist applying his talents to the creation of a successful art and merchandising empire, 山下しゅんや / Shunya Yamashita is now very well known both for a series of artbooks, and lately a rapidly growing line of figures.

“Big onii-chan-tachi, do you know all our names?” All the girls in this extensive comparison image are identified as being 17, or there abouts – it seems nobody can name them all (though being proven wrong may be possible).

This interesting image, showing the aging and changing fashion sense of various (mostly female) characters of Gundam 00 from season 1 to season 2. Some look to have received significant improvements, though for many any changes may very well be in the eye of the beholder.

Miko anime Kannagi’s protagonist Nagi is renowned for her A-cup charms, and it seems this has been strictly enforced; the character design sketch below bears the legend “Please don’t draw any cleavage”.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha fans anticipating the recently announced movie have been dealt a blow with the release of materials showing the new character design for Nanoha. As you can see, a dramatic increase in the size of her eyes is evident, which many say are now grotesquely oversize.

These two compilation images offer an exhaustive look at some of the most popular art depicting the chests of anime idols Haruhi Suzumiya and Yuki Nagato. If you look closely, you can see there does appear to be some variation in the bust size of Haruhi, perhaps mainly down to the artist and medium, though apparently very little in that of Nagato.

Here we have Crack Graphic presenting the webcomic “Better Girls”, but what I suspect are more compelling to the vast majority of readers are the superbly eccentric character designs displayed. Original, and quite interesting to boot, though by no means prolific.

Another one of those striking images I could hardly refrain from sharing. Be assured, this shoe is going nowhere, and looks to be in for an interesting time indeed. From the cover of an upcoming doujinshi by highly accomplished, though unfortunately not too prolific, artist みぶなつき / Mibu Natsuki (Lily Lily Rose).
The work to be released is said to be focused on black tights, sailor fuku, and kinbaku (rope bondage), so it sounds like one to look out for. Presumably, the girls will be also be wearing nice shoes. Be sure to get it at Comiket if you can.
See some more of his superb erotic illustrations below.

Deceased illustrator 堀部秀郎 / Hiderou Horibe has been the subject of some unfortunate news, with his works being liberally plagiarised by Dengeki, who eventually apologised, but it is perhaps better we remember him as a talented illustrator whose promising career was cut short by illness, at the age of only 36. You can also see a cache of his homepage through the years.
A topical gallery for those curious about his work, or simply eager to see some talented and tasteful illustrations, or more carnal CG; below is “Yours”. Both his two artbooks are still available; the other is “Colors“. Below the artbook are some of his CG from 鬼作 / Kisaku, a 2001 eroge by Elf.

An iconic artist whose illustrations and manga unusually really only form a fraction of his overall works is うるし原 智志 / Satoshi Urushihara (sometimes given as 漆原智志). He has had a long and illustrious career as an animator and character designer for anime, and these achievements overshadow (probably justifiably) his other works; here, the focus is on his own illustrative works however.

Probably one of the very best CG artists around, 村上水軍の館 / Murakami Suigun has been providing superb digital illustrations for many years now, and has accrued much fame and fortune as a result. Since many others have examined his eminently wallpaper suitable illustrations in detail, I shall focus on his more warped erotic and fetishistic illustrations, not a displeasing prospect in the slightest I must admit.

Okama is an artist who combines artistic talent with an evident flair for design; his portfolio as a designer in the world of anime now dwarfs his original works, though in my opinion they do not fully approach what he accomplished with the likes of Hanafuda, though this is perhaps unfairly applying my own taste – he is not really a pure mangaka, more of an artist, and he certainly is not restricted to the erotic themes I am focused on here.
