Major otaku stores (Tora no Ana, Melonbooks, etc.) frequently display lists of their Top 10 bestselling doujinshi, but the most watched rankings are always the ones in the weeks following Comiket.
As Comiket 76 ended last week, there is the interesting opportunity to inspect these doujinshi rankings from three major Akihabara shops – Tora no Ana, Messe Sanoh and Melonbooks.

The latest in the interminable succession of novelty maid cafés to open in Akihabara is “Mononopu,” a café and bar whose theme is based on the sengoku jidai period, and whose “sengoku meido” waitresses wear a incongruous mix of maid outfits, kimono, and armour and swords.

Readers in the vicinity of Akihabara would likely be interested in noting that over the next month the CURE maid café will be in its new Evangelion mode, to go along with the new release of the Evangelion : 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance movie.
This was the same café that recently held its Fate/stay Night event, and so this means a new menu of Eva-influenced dishes and drinks, along with the appropriate decorations to the interior.

Police are said to have raided the Akihabara branch of doujin bookshop Tachibana Shoten, confiscating “suspected loli material”, in circumstances which remain murky.
There is speculation that this is part of an impending crackdown on loli manga, though this is unsubstantiated.

A small tree planted inside the Kaiyodo Hobby store in Akihabara late last week attracted a good number of tanzaku (prayer cards) from the passing otaku customers.
The various wishes are almost entirely what one would expect given the usual clientele, including the words “My Bride” so often that Kaiyodo might have saved many pens if a pre-inked rubber stamp for those kanji had been provided.

An Akihabara maid café has just begun a week long promotion for the upcoming release of the PSP version of Fate/Unlimited Codes.
As we have seen with the same café’s previous Chaos;Head event, this means liberally decorating the cafe with all sorts of series-related accessories and creating a new menu to create “image” dishes for certain characters, which can be seen below…
