Anyone familiar with the file sharing networks peculiar to Japan will know Winny has long formed the mainstay, especially with successor Share having had development abandoned. However, Winny has fallen on hard times lately, and it may not be overstating the case to say that it is finally about to fade into irrelevance.

PC RPG eroge Tears to Tiara/ティアーズ・トゥ・ティアラ, by Leaf, has just had a July 17th release confirmed for the PS3, and preorders have opened, reported here. The original being published in 2005, some improvements can expected for the PS3 port by the looks of things (the screens look good), but as with other console ports of eroge, the biggest “improvement” is likely to be stripping out the naughty bits. Unfortunate.

The fallout from the recent arrest of a certain self publicist and mass media hysteria (Akihabara is a “lawless area”) has continued apace. Firstly, an anti-street performance patrol group was formed to hound off anyone thinking of engaging in such. After this, several conspicuous voices of protest arose: here we have a man dressed as a nurse proclaiming he will not strip (thankfully!), and here an impromptu speech is televised before the perpetrator is taken away; his “heart was stolen by gundam” indeed.

One of my favourite manga, and in fact the first I ever read in the original Japanese, is よつばと!/Yotsuba&!, by 東清彦/Kiyohiko Azuma. It is an entertaining and easygoing manga, with good art and story, so that alone is enough to recommend it; it is a best seller in Japan so many would agree. However, I think it also happens to be the ideal beginner’s manga for learning Japanese, for several compelling reasons.

Look closely at the photos. I saw this slightly bizarre story over at Asahi. A Japanese company is apparently pioneering a new technique for demolishing high rise buildings, one floor at a time, starting from the bottom floor, whilst the structure remains standing. Asahi likens it to darumaotoshi. Details follow. Read the rest of this entry »

萩尾ノブト/Nobuto Hagio is a mangaka most known for Yuria 100 Shiki, and whose works are easily recommended, both as normal H (seinen) manga and as more adult works – some examples follow.

This is by 吉富昭仁/Akihito Yoshitomi. He has published a variety of manga and had some of his works adapted into anime, but in my opinion his greatest achievement is “BLUE DROP ~天使の僕ら~”, not to be confused with the other Blue Drop titles bearing different subtitles, a short (2 volumes) and light hearted manga series which, whilst staying firmly on the side of mere ecchiness rather than being actually adult, nevertheless manages to approach much more explicit material with the perverse situations and demented story premises on offer. A thoroughly enjoyable, if a little bizarre, read; I reproduce a few interesting (H) parts here.

I am really not keen on resurrecting her foul yet shrewd antics, but seeing this over at Akibablog, I can’t help but post. Not content with being arrested, the self proclaimed 22 year old sexy idol 沢本あすか/Asuka Sawamoto (30) has launched a new raunchy DVD of herself, titled as you can see “Sexy Spiral” – perhaps “Downward Spiral” would be more fitting. This has gone on sale in variety of Akiba locations, to be followed in a few days by a general release, according to the unfortunate witnesses.
I have liberally translated the well laid on description given for your delectation/revulsion: “Erotic idol Asuka Sawamoto is let loose in this radical non-nude erotic movie! The ultra close up crotch shots are a must see. A prim and proper little lady does this and that in situations sure to stir you up and get you going with the most alluring shots, totaling 70 minutes. In that slender frame lurks a captivating presence, the very limits of what can be put in an Image DVD”. Relief here and here.

The newly released, and admittedly captivating, swimsuit Nagato by Alter is causing a storm of appreciation already, particularly for the perfectly executed crease. It seems set to dethrone the prized nekomimi Nagato in short order. More detail is to be had here. “The crease under her left breast is fiendish”, indeed. I certainly also can’t help but agree with the comment that the choice of sports swimwear represents a welcome deviation from the typical bikinis and school mizugi.

Via the erstwhile Akibablog. I couldn’t resist posting this Lion Saber figure to go with my previous comment on the striking cover of Fate Tiger Colosseum; as well as puchi Fate characters of all forms, there are a variety of figures photographed there which display careful attention to anatomical detail; pictures were taken at Wonder Festival 2008. Is there a version of Fate which will not be made into a figure?

Spotted on Akibablog – more shots of the drill quality English you could be learning therein, along with an interview with the Marine involved who warns that using some of that language could get you killed. The text above says “Paki☆Stan?”. Very droll. The exemplar of the “dress up woeful English textbooks with anime characters so it becomes less excruciatingly tedious for unmotivated learners” genre is of course Moetan, who now has abandoned all pretense of helping people improve their English, not that those books were not famously bad.

If ever a game sold more copies on account of cover art than of any other factor, フェイト/タイガーころしあむ/Fate Tiger Colosseum for the PSP here is a contender. Great cover, even if it is lions rather than tigers. The reviews are not bad, but spending time with the core works is perhaps more advisable. Figure version here.
