Sea Shepherd Do-Not-Want: 5 years, 7 months ago Lol, I have a friend who’s taking a year off and he wants to join Sea Shepherd for like 2 months or something. Not sure if he knows what he’s getting into xD
Most people I talk to are kinda pro Sea Shepherd. I sorta agree with saving the whales and shit, but eco-terorrism doesn’t seem like the correct approach. Then again governments, laws and diplomacy have failed for the last 20 years so it’s not like we can pretend to hold the high ground :(

Same here. All the people I’ve talked to about whaling are completely anti-whaling. Some were indeed also in favour of Sea Shepherd.
As far as ”saving the whales” is concerned, I agree that it would be nice if the whales could be caught with a little less pain involved. Such as with tranquilisers. But I imagine such measures are extremely expensive. Saving the whales from extinction is a myth. The IWC has set reasonable quotas that won’t allow the whales to go extinct. The fact that Sea Shepherd resorts to violent attacks among other illegal acts to make life for whalers difficult is proof that Japan doesn’t exceed the quotas. In other words, if Japan exceeded the whaling quotas, Sea Shepherd would have a legal basis on which they could combat whaling, but evidently there is no such opportunity.
