What do you think of incredibly strong female characters?

A few examples would be Balsa, Lightning, Motoko, and so on. Highly intelligent and capable women who aren’t there just to be cute stereotypes or sex objects. However, they are usually pretty hot.

Thoughts? Turn on or turn off? Not your thing but you see the appeal? And WHY?
