Volition Stands Behind New Game, Condemns Backlash as “Hate”

The malcontent for the new Saints Row game has continued to grow as developer Volition has released another new trailer that has generated yet more negative reception, and as most Western companies and studios are most inclined to do in the current era, Volition decided to fire back at those daring to criticize them.

Upon the release of the initial trailer at Gamescom, reactions were mixed, and many ardent fans of the series expressed their disappointment with the reboot, citing bland hipster characters that reminded them of Fortnite, and gameplay that seemed similar to Watch_Dogs.

The new “SAINTS ROW Welcome to Santo Ileso Trailer”, which has the developers sharing their thoughts and opinions, received similar bad reception and more chiding comments:

The like to dislike ratios reflect this contempt for the reboot:

As a contrast, the trailer for Saints Row 3 has a far better ratio:

Numerous fans of the series flocked to the Saints Row 3 trailer to express further hatred for the reboot and praised Saints Row 3:

Volition has taken notice of the backlash against their new game, and responded in typical fashion, calling their fans “haters”, while hoping they still stick around to see more of the game those fans have likely already written off. Volition resolutely stated they “won’t back down on this game”:

Not only is Volition hyping up characters that their would-be customers have called hipsters, two sources have confirmed that the studio is also taking the series in a new direction for current year, while writing off their older, incredibly popular games, as products of their time:

“We love [the old Saints Row games], but we also recognize those are games of a time. They made sense within that era, and we were able to do things that felt good back then. But that tone is not something that we feel like we want to do today. We had a different kind of story that we wanted to tell.”

To further the notion that this game is made with “current year” in mind, the Saints will have four total members in the gang who, after working for other gangs, set out to make their own start-up gang to ‘disrupt’ the criminal scene.

Perhaps to ease some worries, apparently the player character can be fully customized, “big or small, young or old, and anywhere in between”, so even if the rest of the gang looks like they need to be home in time for dinner, the player character can at least look like an actual criminal.
