  1. GRAND ISLE, La. - An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.

The Coast Guard says no one was killed in the blast, which was reported by a commercial helicopter flying over the area Thursday morning. All 13 people aboard the rig have been accounted for, with one injury. The extent of the injury was not known.

Coast Guard Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesau said some of those from the rig were spotted in emergency flotation devices.

Seven Coast Guard helicopters, two airplanes and three cutters were dispatched to the scene from New Orleans, Houston and Mobile, Ala., Ben-Iesau said. She said authorities do not know whether oil was leaking from the site.

The Department of Homeland Security said the platform was in about 2,500 feet of water and owned by Mariner Energy of Houston. DHS said it was not producing oil and gas.

The Deepwater Horizon rig leased by BP was in about 5,000 feet of water when it exploded and sank in April, killing 11 workers and triggering a leak of about 206 million gallons of oil.

  2. I told you guys quit smoking on the damn rig it's flammable but do they listen? NOOOOOOOO.

Seriously someone is in a LOT of trouble. On the plus side i'm sure the failsafes were inspected and the well is sealed by automatic failsafes this time.

  3. Those fucking bastards! This just was on TV:

Oil is leaking. The platform got damaged way back by Hurrican Ike and later was still used in that damaged state. Just great...

FUCK! Why do we even have inspection protocol if no one inspects and repairs these things? What company owns it?

Holy crap. I'm gonna go see if this appears on Dutch news in fifteen minutes.

[Edit] Hmm... they only mentioned it briefly during the short messages near the end. They made it seem as though it wasn't a huge problem and the amount of leaked oil was apparently not so big.

Anyone who would be using said oil should be taking blame.

  8. These oil spills are deliberate so they can build an offshore marine decontamination facility ala Big Shell, allowing the secret construction of Arsenal Gear. Damn the Patriots!

nah whoever drills it in an unsafe manner should take the blame.

If you are a cattle rancher and allow toxic runoff from your farm to pollute the groundwater because you do not deal with it int he prescribed manner who is at fault? The rancher who broke the law or people eating burgers most of which were from safe responsible farmers?

I guess it is easier to blame others then yourselves.

If there wasn't a demand then there wouldn't be a problem in the first place. Sure they fucked up but for who are they doing it for? That's right, the consumer$.

You're not dealing with the true source of the problem though. As tingle points out, there's a lot of industries where corporate negligence cause environmental problems.

The problem is that people are not held accountable for their actions or lack-thereof, not that there is demand for the product they happen to produce.

Never said I don't take blame in anything.
And hey, at least I'm willing to admit it.

    say that again? :P

The Bp controversy wasnt because that had an Oil Spill, it's because they couldnt stop it.

Example: In case of Airplane emergency, use this Parachute.
Emergency time comes..Uh, So.....we dont actually have parachutes because it's costs money...
    O_O Wtfboom. :P
