I just don't freakin' understand... Minor languages like german is included but not english??? Doesn't Niwango (owner of nicodouga) know they're shutting themselves out to 2 billion potential customers and the potential limitless amounts of ad revenue if they aggressively sell ad space to companies outside of japan?
To me niwango's business (in cost and revenue terms) is like GM. The revenue is just there so they can survive the next day...

Hiroyuki, the founder said nicovideo is trying to be different from other video sites. So they are doing things such as making a Chinese ver. but no English ver. They want to differentiate from other sites.

They are doing it for the lulz.
But why complain though, most of the videos on Nico will end up on Youtube anyhow....

That's just another way of saying that they have no viable business model. They're in deep red ink. Being "different" by deciding to shut off 2 billion potential customers is stupidity.

I fail to see how the 10th most spoken language on the planet could be a minor language. Also, there aren't 2 billion English speakers. Estimatives put it between 1.5 ~ 1.8 billion. Still, of these, only 400 million are native speakers.
I guess Nico is doomed, anyway. Maybe a surge of English speakers would just elevate the costs with the site, but not the revenue (since they depend on ads, and most English speakers would be anime fans). English speaking people seeking "normal" videos would just go to YouTube. There are few otaku-centered business avaiable to Westerners (not just to the Japanese), and they alone couldn't amount to the profit needed by Nico Nico Douga to an English language option to be viable (probably)... We mostly see ads from j-list, toylet.net, and some few others in otaku-culture related sites we visit, as proof.

Actualy it doesn't bother me,i learned english and german easily.And german is not really much different from english since they all belong into the germanium language.So every english speaking person should know german too,but they seem to only know their own language :P

They said the further expansion will come when they are in the black, which they appear to be now. However, they have not said how well their non-Japanese subsidiaries are doing...

One of the first rules of business studies. The main objective is not always profit.
As for "minor" languages such as german perhaps he specifically likes german culture, and dislikes alot of american/english/australian culture. The germans may take all the sunbeds early in the morning during holidays, but that's nothing compared to the English licking/touching/riding highly prized tuna while drunk.
