  6. sO TO GET MYSELF TROLLED. aM I HE ONLY ONE WHO REALIZES DIFFERENT WEAPONS ARE BEST FOR DIFFERENT THINGS? fOR INSTANCE A NIGHTSTICK I CAN SEE BEING easily BEATEN BY A WELL MADE KATANA OR ANY REAL WEAPON FOR THAT MATTER BUT A KATANA IS A SLASHING TYPE WEAPON AND THUS CAN'T STAHB OR PIRCE WELL wHILE SOMETHING LIKE A CLAYMORE IS MORE LIKE A BLUNT WEAPON BEING CALLED A SWORD. iT IS VERY SITUATIONAL SO I'D TAKE SAY A WARHAMMER AND A WARAXE TO FIGHT SOMETHING LIKE A BEAR BUT OR SOMETHINHG THAT WOULD REQUIRE MAINLY SLASHES AND IS LIGHTLY ARMORED THEN YES A KATANA WOULD BE PREFFERED. i GUESS TO ME THEY ARE AMONG THE BEST FAST SLASHING WEAPONS. oH AND TO ANYONE PROPOSING GUNBLADES THEY GET MY VOTE AND THEY WERE REALLY MADE SO WERE GUN POLEARMS GUN AXES AND SO ON.

  8. A katana is light, sharp, long, and has a large cutting edge. This makes it above-average as a melee weapon.

Don't worry Sorrior. XD Is it that you type while looking at the keyboard and post without checking over your message? Yeah, I can't touch-type either. Well, it works when I try, but I look at my fingers while I type out of habit.

No, ctrl++ enlarges the page, including the text, in some browsers including Firefox and Chrome. But you're using Internet Explorer, right? I don't think it works in that...

^ I have to agree with this for the most part. Different weapons for different situations. The katana is an ideal cutting blade for unarmoured personal. Because of this, the katana was a side weapon. The main weapon a Samurai would use was something more akin to a spear, something heavier that could tear through the armour their opponent would wear. Most Samurai weren't even expert swordsmen. That would be like a soldier of today being an expert in using a pistol. Most of them use rifles, so most specialize in rifles.

Personally my weapon of choice would be the Renaissance Rapier / Dagger combo. Although it lacks cutting power, it is the best weapon I know of for thrusting power and is also the fastest weapon. It could theoretically be broken in half by a heavier blade, such as a claymore... if the rapier user is an idiot. It's light and lightning fast, there's a reason it became the blade of choice during the Renaissance. For those bad with history, the rapier was basically the last long blade used before the primary weapon was replaced by a rifle and the blade was just a dagger. That means the rapier was a more useful weapon than either slashing or cleaving weapons used before it's time, otherwise it wouldn't have gained the popularity it did. Furthermore, because of a rapier light weight it could easily be wielded in an urban environment, whereas you'd have difficult doing so with a heavier blade that required wide swings, or requires swings period. Also, the range of a rapier is far greater than a katana, not only because of it's extended length, but also because of the way it is used. Again, thrusting weapon as opposed to slashing weapon. One of the primary tactics with a rapier was to lunge toward the enemy suddenly, and this is why it beat out the other blades. The rapier user would stay at a longer distance, just out of reach of both blades, and suddenly as a counter attack, the rapier used wound lunge forward and stab. It's the fastest blade, so normally this would work. Furthermore, you'd have much better chances of piercing armour with a rapier because, again, thrusting weapon. With a katana, you may as well just give up if an armoured opponent shows up. I think the main reason rapiers aren't popular in today's world is that their not showy. You use a katana, you can take someone's arm off instantly. A rapier might be deadlier, but you pierced him through the heart or face, there's a very small wound and therefore doesn't make for as good cinema. We no longer use blade for killing, now it's just for showmanship, and if it's showmanship, the katana, the ultimate cutting blade, yeah, that wins.
