coswhore theory

  1. What is your theory on why the ugliest girls are typically the ones who cosplay the most and make up most of the cosplayers?

I theorize they don't get the male sexual attention all women crave evidenced by high school, college, the mall, youtube, myspace, the office, the internet in general, and any public place. They don't get this attention simply because they are ugly so they need other means to garner this attention. They resort to the fetishistic activity of coswhoring/play. By using props and unusual costumes they distinguish themselves from other females which draws attention by itself but that isn't enough. They wear costumes that will only appeal to a certain select group of omega males. Thus dropping their standards for attention to get any at all while the alpha males they would prefer ogle model grade statuesque beauties. The homely coswhore targets the omegas of the omegas since these omega males are so desperate and they too get so little attention from the opposite sex. Therefore they will become fixated by any female who glances at them and give up any thing he has to her. The only ways to break this symbiosis would be for alpha males to take an interest in cosplayers before their metamorphosis or omega males to turn their attention away from these cosplaying omega females.

  2. I can't say I agree with the initial hypothetical (i.e., that ugly girls are the biggest cosplayers) so I don't see any reason to accept the explanation thereof.

    This.

Dunno where you are looking al but this statement is true to me.

  4. I accept your premise, but reject your rationale.

In my limited experience, it's less desirable (especially heavyset) women who are the best seamstresses. Being skilled in any type of trade leads to a high desire to exhibit those skill- cosplay being an excellent outlet to display sewing skill.

After that, I can't really say why the ugly::sewing correlation, but I'd be willing to venture that the higher a women is on the social pecking order (and thus has some correlation to physical beauty) the less likely she is to to sew... and even less likely to be interested in the whole concept of cosplay.

  5. To your assumption, you say that ugly women cosplays so they can get the attention of the mass through the culture of Otakus? I think not.
This kind of attention is lather, a hobby or yet just a traditional experience for themselves. I don't see why they have to do it to feel comfortable with attention.

Also, mind you that if you see some group/people who cosplays, it's mostly ugly "men".
IF, by chance, that it's a feminine, then it was a rare yet a chance that's merely a luck.

  10. As a person who doesn't cosplay, I don't really understand cosplayers... do the ugly ones really think that they look like the character? Or is it about portraying a character who you love no matter how bad the outfit? Or is it for attention?

As far as I know, most who cosplay are the one's who are fans, and just loves the one they cosplay, so for them, even if they don't look like the character, as long as the costume is fine, then it'll do...

but some, specially the professionals, they're just there to exhibit...

  12. Well, most of the cosplayers I've seen aren't terribly attractive, though I don't KNOW if most of them are unattractive, or if unattractive ladies do it more often than attractive ones. I think they just do it because, since they're ugly, they automatically fall in the lowest social ranks, the nerds/geeks, and they just happen to be into that stuff anyways. Geeky/nerdy guys cosplay just as often as uggos from what I've seen, so it's not really a gender specific thing. I'd imagine there are plenty of guys who'd bang a fat Kagome in a heartbeat though.

  13. The original posters statement and rationale are completely true in my experience. Cosplaying in the western world (I'll get to Japan in a second) is mostly the ugliest fatest girls around. It's frankly the reason I stopped going to anime conventions some 4 or 5 years ago.

Now Japanese cosplayers aren't really perfect either. There's just a lot more of them, and thus enough cute ones who get exposure outside of Japan cast an amazing image. If you actually spend any time at events that draw them in Japan, you'll notice that most have bad complexion (covered up with make up, and soft filter lenses/filters help) or very weird facial proportions. Thankfully there are no fat chicks.

Seriously ladies, a diet and some exercise, it'll take you like two months to get a BMI of 20-22, you won't look so goddamn awful. Try it.

  16. I propose we instigate an alliance between the seamstresses and the hot chicks.

In my experience, the cutest cosplayers have unfortunately been a little too young for me to be comfortable taking their pictures...

  17. Perhaps you have not seen any galleries of the hot cosplayers posted every now and then?

This should be enough for now:

Warning: Don't watch if you're easily impressed. Contains explicit graphic content. It may traumatize you, make you rage or make you lose a night of sleep.

This is the first time I found a downside to your seriousness.
So, you're really evil inside. I should've known.
