Backed up on my glorious FREEDOM FIGHTING MACHINE. (lol, dusty 5 year old pc)

Had some heart-rending details in it.

I'm sure he could have kept the mother's emails in public at least? She gave him permission. Or no because they had case details in them?

Just listen to the tone of the dialogue:

"Eric did not cover the plea agreement with Chris. The only way he got understanding of any part of it was by repeatedly calling Eric’s associate with questions. And then we didn’t always understand the answers. The shock that came in court was that the government can appeal the sentence if they don’t like it. No one had informed us of that. Eric thought the most he would get is 6-24 months and a small fine. Not so the way they talked in court."

It makes things sound like he got processed by a genuine modern Kangaroo Court (the "right to control one's own defense" part; he didn't seem to have been given a clear enough idea of what was going on to control anything very well).

And I like this tidbit, which pretty much sums up where the case is presently:

"Eric thought they could get him less prison time and maybe only probation. It sounded better than going to trial, losing and getting a for sure 5 year sentence for importation of obscene material. Less than 5 days after Chris told Eric he would agree to the plea, Chris had it in hand. Obviously there was no negotiation. I believe according to the plea, Chris cannot withdraw the plea. I will check on that. However, the judge has not accepted it yet. So I am not sure where that puts things. There is a sentencing hearing in August. I think that is when the judge will decide whether to accept the plea or not."

The drama will just last and last it seems.

    Here is Matt's follow-up article:

    http://matt-thorn.com/wordpress/?p=331

We don't know what exactly they told him. Either way I can't see how it would be "in the best interest Christopher Handley’s defense" to remove the only not anonymous article on the net that allowed us to view this case from the perspective of Christopher's family. Unless it's in his best interest as in "we'll make him or his family suffer if you keep the letters online".

For me the most shocking was the last paragraph:

I won’t make public your correspondence with Josh. Feel free to do with my e-mails what you wish as they are from me since Chris is not allowed to “chat” with anyone or ask anyone one to do so on his behalf. Fortunately they didn’t put any restrictions on me when they put him in my custody. Read the article on comipress.com. I think it was titled Down the Slippery Slpe - The Crime of Viewing Manga.

I knew that he wasn't allowed to use chat, but to be not allowed to ask people to post something on his behalf is just... wow >:|
And I was wondering why we never heard anything from Christopher Handley himself >.>
I mean, even a prisoner is allowed to ask his friends/family to publish his articles, right?

  8. Isn't that predicting the future unell? I would like to think the same, but I imagine it can be an incredibly emotional process. I imagine that our emotions might make us want to shut down and get the process over as fast as possible and defer to what others say.

You might resist what police tell you to do until you get a lawyer, but if even your lawyer says to do something then it takes a strong centeredness and fortitude to disregard that.

I just wish he could have talked to people on the board in person, man, if Gaiman had shown up as a witness that would have been epic.

Lunar, I don't really appreciate the attitude you've displayed here. Instead of going through a song and dance to get this posted, could you not have just emailed this to me, like everyone else with an interesting story? I'm already surprised nobody bothered informing me of this in the first place...

    THEN....

Had no idea this was the precedent. I'd seen others post potential articles in the Forums and thought that's just how it worked. And I was just being tongue-in-cheek when I made those comments last thread :P Should have thought it might offend you. My apologies if you'll accept them.

Lunar...even a 3-D loving, McDonalds munching, Liberal Bashing shithead like ME knows to post directly to Artefact (or his subordinates)- lol.

Me personally I want more restrictions on 'some' of this stuff. I want some of you NON-Normal A-Holes to hide in corners and in dark rooms sweating over getting your 'precious perversions'- lol. It has become TOO easy for some un-natural perverts to get their 'Jollys' (Not us normal Hetero-sexual Pervs mind you there's free 3-D naked chicks everywhere!...cause that's normal).

Just remember Buck-O's it's only a matter of time before one of you 'Goes too far' creates the event that will lead to the crackdown that end your Obscene little 'hobbies'...You know what 'types' of people I'm referring to (the Deviant Sick-O's)
