  1. Lately I've seen a very good trend going on in Japan - old, yet high quality (or classic) anime are beginning to receive brand new BD editions. Some examples are CCS, FLCL, Haibane Renmei and Black Lagoon.
I do know FLCL will also come out in the US later this year, and that's great. But frankly I find myself asking: What about all the other great titles (including the above mentioned ones)?
I know some series only recieve a BD edition as a time-limited special edition and then disappear from the market. For example the BD editions of CCS and EF - a tale of memories were on sale for about half a year in Japan? But they deserved so much more time then that...
Can't US publishers do the same, if not a better job at selling great series in brand new BD editions? I'm adding a poll about buying habits, but I also want to know what you all think. Is there hope for such releases?

  2. I agree I'd LOVE to have CCS on blu ray hell even regular DVD. We need more classics. Oh and I of course mean being subbed/redubbed. I should also add I don't see FLCL as being that old nor Black Lagoon for that matter. But yes I do agree with you. Oh and how about the old guyver OVAs and the movie fromthe 80s( the ova anime movie obviously).

  5. Its going to be hard to do that considering the Japanese have a hard time keeping a good Master Copy of the Anime's that has good quality.I am sure they will make a remastered edition of those anime it may cost a lot to make copy's.

Pretty much any series prior to 2004 will need to be remastered in order to look good on BD. And yes, it costs a lot of money. However making BD copies doesn't cost that much more than DVD copies nowdays. Also considering you have an already existing fan base for your series, you are kind of playing it safe. I myself am crossing my fingers for a Lain BD. It would be a dream to have this remastered since the original series was one of the first to come out in the DVD era and had poor picture quality.

  7. Lets see.

    Urusei Yatsura
    Sailormoon
    Ranma

All long series I like I wouldn't mind finally owning legit.
Likely will never happen though. I don't see them making the effort.

Several decent series I'd likely get around to buying legit finally. I never had any realistic chance before.

I just hope they make Tenchi Muyo Box set for every series they made on Blu-Ray I am sure that will sell out because I remember even when it was not shown on Cartoon Network it was hard for me find a copy in the store It keep's selling out.

  9. Funimation just announced the licensing of a few new series and tons of oldies. I can't help but notice Lain and Haibane Renmei are among them. Also Nozomi just licensed the whole Utena series and movie lot. The future of BD classics is looking quite bright.
