Who is/are anime/manga main protagonist(s) that you hate the most?

  1. I vote for Sawada Tsunayoshi of Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I can't stand it anymore as the more I read the manga, the more I want to punch him and pound some goddamn spine onto him. I mean, c'mon! It's not that real to have reluctant hero being that spineless and gutless after so many things that he has experienced. I mean, he should've at least shaped out a bit after so much, I mean, in normal mode without the dying flame. I mean if you are that spineless, but you experience so much like him and got that kind of power, I bet you will toughen up even just a bit. HE is super duper annoying. the worst protagonist ever.

I can only compare him to Shunpei Closer of Magic Ban Removal!!! Hyde and Closer. But I like Shunpei so much more because he actually did his best to toughen up and be a man, doing the right thing.

  4. lol. I still read it cos it still gets me hooked up on curiosity of what's gonna happen later. But yea, you love him, he annoys me though.

  5. School Days- which you obviously haven't seen because he's not your automatic pick...
School Days is just about the only thing I would erase from my memory if I could (that and Kimi no Na wo Yobeba)- I'm not even clamoring for a remission of the time spent on it, I just wish I could forget it.

lol. could you tell me a lil' bit why? I mean the character, since I don't watch it :)

  7. I actually answered this exact same question before over on the Fakku forums, so I'll just repost what I said there.

    1) It's just a bad anime with terrible pacing. I forced myself to keep watching because I figured something with as much reputation as it did must get better at some point- it never does.

    2) Main character is a typical sub-average anime lead with no outstanding characteristics that would lead women to fall in love with him. But he still gets a girlfriend and is a real asshole. He's excessively sexually aggressive and get's overly upset when she doesn't respond well (he's trying to fondle her chest on the first date). He doesn't have the gall to break up with her so he just tries to ignore her, but still constantly sends her mixed messages.
    Spoiler:
Meanwhile this asshole of a lead goes on to have sex with about 7 girls and doesn't show any of them any real respect.

    3) The only likeable character in the entire anime is the lead's best friend.
    Spoiler:
She was the one who initially hooked the lead up with his girlfriend- but she later decides to act on her feelings and steals him away. She is constantly telling him he needs to man up and break up with the first girl, but he never does it. Meanwhile, halfway through the anime he gets bored of her too, and we see the best character in the show subjected to a non-stop emotional barrage, ending with an entirely justified 2nd degree murder.

But all that crap was the reason it got popular (and still is, prevailing through piles of bugs and patches). That and it being the first fully animated eroge out there (I think).

What's wrong with Kimi no Na wo Yobeba? sure...it wasn't exactly a good story, but if find those "Blue" series' much worse.

But yea..I hate Makoto too. I also hate all those more than pathetic main characters in all these animes I watched. Ugh...

Bible Black is also extremely popular- doesn't mean I'm necessarily going to be part of the crowd. Also, the most offensive thing is probably just the fact that it's just bad overall. I literally had to force myself to watch it to get past the sheer boredom, and got a severe virtual punch in the face for my efforts. I'd have a lot less angst if the presentation were better.

About Yobeba, I've seen plenty of disgusting crap that I've quit watching in disgust but that's because I have no emotional investment in them. Yobeba spent the majority of the first episode building up the main relationship with the girl, then subjected her to one of the most emotionally devastating rapes I've ever seen. I didn't exactly shed any tears over it, but it still really hurt and put me in a real funk for several days.

  10. I stopped watching School Days at episode six. I couldn't take anymore of their crap especially Makoto. I wish that little fucker where real just so that I can kick him in the nuts, which is how I felt after watching six episodes.

  11. In anime, NO one comes close to Shinji (Evangelion as if I had to point it out) for being so easily hateable for being such a whiny emo.

  12. a. Fooling around sexually is expected within about 2 weeks of beginning to date in a Japanese relationship.

    b. Japanese school-kids are incredibly shy, and would rather avoid confrontation than bothering to stop sending mixed signals.

    c. Makoto's adorable, like a little cuddly bear.

My least favorite protagonist is that little shit from Fruits Basket. She's way too fucking cheerful, it makes me wanna slit the sides of her mouth with a razor.

  13. ~Shinji Ikari - from Evangelion. Classic spineless brat, and the only reason he gets the job done is mostly when Eva 1 goes berserk on him, or if he's assisted by Rei and Asuka.

~Hibiki Tokai from Vandread. I know that in that series, the men and women are at war with each other, but he's been a total ass since day one.

~Sosuke Sagara from FMP. Being raised in a war zone is no excuse for having no common sense. His "mission-first-before-everything-else" stance was cute for a while, but it wore thin around Fumoffu.

~Ryoma Echizen from Prince Of Tennis. I keep wondering why people find him cute when he's merely a cocky little brat who just happens to be a talented tennis player. It would have made more sense if the manga-ka followed through with the plan of making him an anti-hero and gave Momoshiro the top billing instead...

~Kyon from Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuutsu. He's way too jaded for his own good. While a decent foil for Haruhi's hyperactivity, it's also a character trait that gets too old when sustained.

  14. @psycholoner so do you have anyone in specific that falls to this category?

@sifian thx a lot for elaborating, now I understand what u feel. no, trust me, i do. One anime that i liked being from games is ... (I forgot the title). It's about this guy going out with this girl and the girl got into accident, and then got into coma for several years, and then he hooked up with this girl's best friend because she was the one cheering him up during his most depressed state, before the girl finally woke up. But it's actually pretty realistic and I love it despite the depression that I felt.

shinji ikari huh? Interesting, I know he might be the father of all spineless hero. I don't know why, but I can accept this fact due to his past and psychological disturbance. I mean, he is not sane. As for sawada tsunayoshi, he just got no balls.

sosuka sagara is very hilarious, I love him :D

ryoma? I wanna slap him, but yeah, he is pretty cool cos he is cocky for actually being a genius. lol. not realistic, but oh well.

    Keep them coming guys :)

i'll agree with these too...I only watched Fumofu so i liked Sosuke based on that, never saw the originals. Echizen is just snobish and all his teammates are more likable than him... BURNING!!! XD

In real life they are annoying and loud because of dad issues, too much Machiavelli read and/or just want to fuck up your life and steal your cash.

On anime they are extremely cute once you get past the punches and kicks... I am moƩ for most of them ^^ (Shakugan no Shana, Toradora, FullMetalPanic!, Hayate no Gotoku, you name it... I love them all ><)

...also, it fits the submissive male trait most Japanese seem to share perfectly well, after all, any relationship need an alpha primate, be it the male or the female.
