Stop the removal of content from anime/manga websites!!!!

  1. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/StopAnimeRemoval

This article has upset and hurt a lot of people: http://l7world.com/2010/04/google-sponsors-child-pornography.html

This guy is trying to get all adult anime/manga banned from the internet. He wrote this article with the intent of having google and all the companies that advertise on google take down the ads from the sites that host anime and manga, unless they remove all of the adult content from their sites. Not just the underage stuff. Read carefully. They’re removing ALL of it.

There are so many reasons why this is wrong. Anime and manga are one of the few things that bring joy into my life. I do not see how it is right to just remove all these things all because of one article written by some half-wit who doesn’t even know the law. If Google would just change their TOS this would not happen. They should allow ads to be run on a site that has adult content, as long as that content is marked as adult.

There are many reasons why this is wrong. First of all, Shota and Loli con are NOT child porn. It’s part of the Japanese culture. But ALL adult material on these sites does not contain underage characters. So to have them remove ALL material marked adult makes no sense, if your only target is indeed ‘child porn’ as he claims. Some adult manga and anime are not even pornographic.

Rather than having the sites remove all that content… Why not simply ask them to move all of it to a special section for adults only? Would it really be that much trouble? To just have it put into a separate site?

People should learn a lesson from this, really. Parents should take responsibility for what their children are exposed to, rather than expect the world to do it for them. As a parent, I do know what I am talking about. Personally, I have a 3 year old son. I don’t want him being exposed to this kind of thing either. But I think that’s why we have a parental block on the computer and the television. It’s there to be used, so people should use it. If you have a problem with the site that your kids go on, then don’t let them go on it. Don’t get angry and blame the site for it. That’s just senseless witch-burning for no reason.

And I would urge anyone and everyone who cares about the state of freedom in our world (whether you like anime/manga or not) to sign it. Because if we let them win this time, next time it maybe be something else you care about. With more and more rights being taken away every day, the world is becoming a place I don’t even want to live in anymore. We cannot afford to let them take away our freedom of expression.

I am personally going to send a letter to each and every place the writer of the first article sent one. And I’m going to argue my point, as a fan of anime and manga, and as a mother, and see what they have to say to me about it.

I am NOT going to read any more anime or manga from the sites that remove the adult ones. And I know it’s not going to be easy, but I STRONGLY encourage everyone else to do so as well. This is the only way it will stop. In addition, I am no longer using google as a search engine. I’m not going to buy products from any of the companies that have a hand in this. No one should. They are violating our freedom of speech and expression.

It has to be stopped before this gets out of hand. It stops… with you. Each of us can and will make a difference. The tyranny has to end.

That being said, this petition is to STOP the removal of anime and manga from websites on the grounds that doing so violates our freedom of expression. Also, to get Google and it’s advertisers to allow it within their TOS, if they will put such content in a separate section on the site, marked for adults only.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  2. I agree! Loli banning is taking away our freedoms. Soon it'll be like 1984 Big Brother where everything is censored and watched by the government.

That aside, time for a rant.

People should STFU about this issue. Google is a company with a big reputation that would be shattered extremely easy if it was labeled a supporter of child pornography. Honestly, stop to think about other people's positions rather than only considering yourself to be the center of the world. I've read posts about how people will stop using Google servicecs because of this. But really? Can you really avoid Google? Google is the largest name on the internet. Without realizing, you probably are using their services already. Many website searches are powered by Google. Many companies use Google Apps for documents, search, email and such. Many websites are completely funded through adverts provided by Google. Many other websites rely upon services that Google provide to gain exposure and popularity. Google pretty much has a near-monopoly.

Would any of you single people like to be labeled as a possessor and supporter of child porn? I think NOT. Both possession and distribution of CP is a crime in more than 58 countries in the world. Penalties include things like up to 200 years in prison, fines of millions of US Dollars. Would you rather receive that or demand that your clients fix your problem? The answer is obvious! So think about it logically. You are not the center of the world! The world will not end because you can't read your porn (or smut/loli/shota/yuri/yaoi/whatever manga)!

    +1

I know, there were some mangas that I was reading that I can't, maybe I COULD had finished them, but some Yankees stole about 2000 phone lines and left a good part of the city without a telephonic line for 6 days! Damn bastards!

  15. The Article from the ass#### that started it all. Read it carefully, and you will understand whats happening right now....http://l7world.com/2010/04/google-sponsors-child-pornography.html

According to Google Adsense Terms of Service (TOS) simply linking to pornography (legal or not) is a violation, that is unless a website has enough traffic to make it worthwhile.

Manga & anime (Japanese comics and cartoons) frequently involve characters of questionable age in sexual situations but there’s nothing ambiguous about the genres known as Lolicon and Shotacon, in which clearly prepubescent girls and boys are blatantly sexualized. While no actual children are involved, these images are still considered illegal under the United States’ Protect Act and the UK’s Coroners and Justice Act.

Nevertheless Google ads can be found on websites with lolicon titles such as:

Kodomo no Jikan going to Disney World!

This ad for Disney World appears directly under a picture of a child masturbating with a shower head (mangavolume.com).

Dance in the Vampire Bund, about a prepubescent vampire in love with a 17-year-old werewolf (child nudity in both manga & anime)

Kodomo No Jikan, about a 3rd grader whose stepfather wants to marry her but she wants to be with her teacher (child nudity, masturbation, molestation in both manga & anime).

Omamori Himari, about a demon hunter with a harem of female demons, including a prepubescent girl who takes her clothes off and dry humps the main character to heal him in episode 5 (nudity is censored but the orgasmic moaning is not)

Chu-Bra!!, about middle school children that start an underwear club (child nudity and fondling in both manga & anime)

But it’s not really surprising that Google is advertising on these sites considering they themselves are showing Dance in the Vampire Bund (albeit a somewhat censored version) on Youtube, which is owned by Google.

While Google certainly isn’t the only company helping to sponsor lolicon, it is the largest and supposedly the most respected. And it’s not as if these sites are under the radar. Many of them are in the Top 1000 Adsense sites (http://serversiders.com/toplist/adsense) and include: Animextremist.com (#237), Mangaupdates.com (#549), Mangatoshokan.com (#833), and Foroanime.com (#900). Nor is the content hidden. In fact, it’s often openly advertised under the aforementioned Lolicon and Shotacon genres. These site even advertise themselves with Google Adwords using specific lolicon titles like “Kodomo No Jikan” as keywords. In other words, there’s no plausible deniability here. I confronted Google about this 2 weeks ago, but none of these sites have been banned so I’ve contacted the companies being advertised on them directly and will post their responses here.

Below are some examples with the companies sponsoring them in bold. Most of the ads are from the University of San Francisco Online (usanfranonline.com) & PRweb.com which don’t seem to care where their ads appear in general, but there are many more established organizations that you’d think would keep better track of where their advertising dollars are going such as: AT&T, Verizon, Disney, All State, Ace, Circuit City, Gillette, Frito Lay, American Express, ESPN and even the NATIONAL GUARD!

    UPDATE:

First of all, I don’t have a problem with opposing opinions so long as they more than just curse words with fake emails. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to moderate them sooner because I’ve been sick (which I sure some of you will be glad to here).

Secondly, the point of the article is not that lolicon should be banned or that anyone who reads it should be put in jail. The point (which I stated in the beginning) is the hypocrisy in allowing sites with material that clearly violates Google’s TOS (or worse) simply because they’re profitable. I could have written the same article about Google partnering with websites like Gawker.com & PerezHilton.com, which have adult pornographic material, but that has already been pointed out by many already to no avail. But I bet I got their attention now.

    FINAL UPDATE

I’ve closed comments as many are unfit to post and the rest are mostly about censorship and manga being banned, which isn’t the case. No manga, certainly not the adult variety, have been banned. Some websites have voluntarily taken down content to comply with Google’s TOS. All these manga are and will continue to get scanlated, they just won’t be hosted on websites with adsense. And for that I’m not sorry.

  17. There's a rather huge flaw in this. In private companies there is no such thing as freedom of expression, they can do whatever they want with their stuff and if anyone is to blame it would be the sites that complied with the removal request because they are acknowledging that loli and shota ARE CP because that's what this is about. I shall do as she says and stop using google and all that, that makes sense after all, but mind you that google is used millions or even billions of times every day and we might not make much of a difference but to try and fail is better than giving up before doing anything.

  20. Wow, I was asking about this in IRC awhile ago.

This amounts to a virtual ban on Google ad partner websites. In my experience, online petitions amount to nothing. Exposing Google for their two-faced tactics is nesessary, combined with a net neutrallity stance, as oppossed to a pro-lolicon/shotacon/porn, to win the backing of the masses.

I suggest we start by boycotting sites that voluntarily self-censored (Fakku, Doujinland, etc) and list alternatives and give them our traffic.
