People rely too much on the inflection of their voice for sarcasm. Many have never developed the ability to show sarcasm through the words alone.

the pakistani video taking responsibility was a good tip off.

^THIS
It's like people think the only way to be sarcastic is by using their voice. And I hate it when you have to tell them you're being sarcastic because they took it literally >_>
in fail news, a bomb in a suitcase at the Houston airport went bang, little smoke didn't even destroy the luggage it was in.
Terrorists are so stupid they can't even make a working bomb this month.
a reporter found a pakistani passport ditched near the suspect's former home (his house was foreclosed) Eric holder claims the suspect was nabbed before he borded the plane but the airline reports the plane taxied back and they dragged three people off including the suspect so he HAD borded. This whole bomb was prevented by a tshirt vendor.
I hope Napolitano doesn't say "the system worked" again. This is pure dumb luck. Not to mention the new york officials claiming it was a one crazy non-terrorist after everyone including me was sending around videos of the taliban of Pakistan taking responsibility. I HOPE this is about secrecy because if they really believed that they are idiots. Seriously incompetent government. Luckily I live nowhere near new York and I find them to be assholes so it doesn't affect me but I pity them.
The Claim by "news sources" was that he was nabbed before the plane took off. Aka The whole last Second Nonsense. not that he boarded.
The Plane Never Left the terminal, and for safe measure they took in two other people of interest who were then let go and the flight was allowed to leave.
The controversy was that he was on a no fly list, but he was able to board a plane, because apparently people don't understand that the list is not instant, it's not a twitter.
Eric Holder Doesn't Claim it, The Fbi and NyPD report it to him.
Yes Incompetent gov't, because Where you live, the Police have Future Vision and and Are Able to Detect Any Citizens Purchase of Propane tanks and Fireworks.
as Suspicious.
And if anyone who has a lighter and has ever Bought Propane tanks
Your people have a system that detects it before it even happens.
All sarcasm aside, Our Best Defense Against being attacked is Stupid people. And Lord knows Recruiting Americans to Attack America is Fucking genius.
Ps. The Street Vendor Identified smoke after fuse was lit. He didn't prevent anything.
but i know i want him around, in a high populated area, he's the only one who notified authorities about a smoking car just sitting there.

Explosives training classes in Pakistan are apparently a waste of money...

Ok...so would you mind giving an example that doesn't rely on voice inflection?
EDIT: Nevermind.

Ok then :p
Eric Holder did indeed claim that the man was taken into custody by customs BEFORE he entered the plane although that has proven false.
Napolitano is claiming he was on a no fly list and Emirate airlines didn't check him. Emirate it seems doesn't update their list that fast and the us government doesn't update it very fast either.

Don't need future vision to know what half the internet already did while you run around assuming or telling the public the opposite.
It looks like the Patriot act which I complain about a lot was used here as they intercepted his cell phone signals and in doing so received a flight confirmation that allowed them to figure out where he was going and stop the plane as it was getting ready for takeoff. Customs and Border protection got the flight manifest and stopped him.
So what good is the no fly list if it's NOT instant? Why can't it update as fast as twitter? What do they use carved stone tablets delivered by mail?
Former 9/11 Commission vice chair and Democratic congressman Lee Hamilton seems less impressed.
Hamilton reminds ABC News that “the 9/11 commission recommended that you had to have biometric evidence, documentarian evidence of people coming in and exiting” the country. “We’ve done a pretty good job on the first part of it people entering the country. But with regard to those exiting the country we simply have not been able to set up a system to deal with that and it showed in this case.”
Hamilton says “we need to have in this country a system of checking people leaving the country so that we can protect against the very sort of thing that happened here -- or at least almost happened here.”

"Great job, Einstein," is a classic example of sarcasm that works without voice inflection since it overplays one's supposed success by equating him to someone considered to be of genius-level intellect. Of course the implication because of this gross exaggeration (a common tactic in sarcasm) implies that the target of this remark has actually made a fool of himself.
Here's another classic example of sarcasm through words only, using a similar kind of irony, exaggeration and absurd references presented in the first example. "I think terrorism is a great idea. Maybe when we've all vested ourselves in plastic explosives and bombed the hell out each other's Sbarro restaurants, we'll finally put an end to obesity and global overpopulation."

Here is another good example:
You should do a whole tutorial on sarcasm, it would be great!
Only joking noctrune, i could not help myself

The argument could be made though that the person intended it to be a compliment, and felt that a hyperbole was needed to express how much of a genius that person really is.
And this was what I thought of seconds after I posted. Stating something that's blatantly bad and praising it.
why is it that whenever nocturne goes into a thread, it goes wildly off-topic and becomes a lecture about english usage/grammar?
seriously, i have nothing against him but its utterly utterly tedious
to be fair to him, it could be the nocturne x reizo combo...
My recollection tells me that I've made a quip about language use (I don't think I've said anything about grammar, though) twice. I also think it's fine for conversations to digress, temporarily fly off on tangents and whatnot. You wouldn't be able to make a remark about oblique statements if one willed that everyone must stick to the OP - unless the OP is about oblique statements. And it is somewhat tedious to align oneself rigidly with the same topic, especially with forgettable news stories about a guy who doesn't know how to make a bomb making a bomb.
