  1. CUFFS sent a cease and desist letter on behalf of their Sphere brand to the TLWiki administrator requesting that the Yosuga no Sora translation project be removed. As such, the files have been removed from the wiki in compliance with the request. The text and translation of the email as posted by Moogy is reproduced below.

    Dear moogy0@gmail.com

    I’m CUFFS’s staff.
I can speak English so little that I wrote in easy Japanese.

    私は有限会社CUFFSのスタッフです。
    英語が話せないので、簡単な日本語で書きます。

    あなた方が公開しているプロジェクトの中に、私たちの著作物ヨスガノソラ(Yosuga no Sora)があります。
    しかし、私たちはヨスガノソラを他人が公開したり、翻訳することを認めていません。

    ヨスガノソラ翻訳プロジェクトを中止して、シナリオスクリプトを削除して下さい。

    ヨスガノソラのファンの誠実な対応を期待します。

    TL:

I’m one of the employees at CUFFS. I’m not very good with English, so I’ll write this in simple Japanese instead.

One of our copyrights, Yosuga no Sora, is currently included in your open translation project. However, we do not permit third parties to publicize {files of, presumably} or translate Yosuga no Sora.

Please stop your translation work on Yosuga no Sora and remove its script files.

We hope that you will do the right thing, as fans of Yosuga no Sora.

Although suspicious, there is no indication so far that this move is linked to the Eden* translation project in recent days.

  2. So... looks like translations projects are just going to go private again with occasional blogrolls without the Wiki transparency anymore.

  3. bummer ;_;
I wonder if us fans would ever see some of these games in English without fan translations. Seeing as how JAST(and associated brands), Mangagamer, and Kitty Media can only pick up so many games, probably not, huh?

  4. They can only pick them up if people actually buy them...

And we're back to the classic conundrum of supporting an industry that outputs mediocre translations for the sake of improving that industry, or not supporting it because they output mediocre translations and keeping it in a constant state of mediocrity.

    p.p.s: ethics? bah.

  6. Oh great. -__-
That was one of the games I was looking forward to most. It had a blood-related sister route...

Such sites should block out Japanese IPs. :/

  7. Just read that it's not only Minori and Cuffs, but also Pixy-Soft who demanded translations of their games being taken down. Dark Translation got a DMCA notice a week ago.

Either the eroge publishers made some kind of secret agreement to erase any traces of their work outside of Japan,
or some guy actually wrote letters to the companies in order to get some lulz or whatnot.

I'm pretty sure more will follow at this rate...
I guess that's it for the English community, time to change the sides~
Someone got a good way/medium to learn Japanese?

  8. Well, that's stupid.
Too bad for them, because they'll be losing out on potential publicity for their product, and thus, would lose out potential revenue for their products. Really smart move MINORI.....ahem I mean CUFFS!
