Doesn't this just allow larger companies to hold monpolies on internet rates.
They own most most of the cables, so their competitors will be run out of business since they all use the internet.Really nothign about excess regulation which is what i initially thought.
but yea if access wasn't expensive before, Comcast, At&t etc are gonan really fuck you up the ass now.Capitalism ftl, crushing small businesses one sin of greed at a time.
kinda like healthcare all over again.
everyone wants it, it can be cheaps, but they want to make money off your sorry ass and they're the only ones who can supply it.lols

Much as I agree with the sentiments behind net neutrality as well as for the common good, I can't help but to agree with this
But broadband providers such as Comcast, AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. argue that after spending billions of dollars on their networks, they should be able to sell premium services and manage their systems to prevent certain applications from hogging capacity.
If you want true net neutrality, the infrastructure should not be funded by a corporation

Wow, shit's going down. Before you know it, Comcast and the like will start giving a STRONG preference to http and other such boring protocols, banning sites they don't like(such as Sankaku), and blacklisting all manner of programs. Before you know it, you'll hardly have speeds indicative of broadband at all unless you're on one of the 500 most-used internet sites as indexed by Comcast.
Though I'm sure lots of tech people will organize to circumvent all this.

Lol, thats a fantasy situation. Unless comcast somehow evolves into china thats supremely unlikely. Corporations are there to make moneys. ideally their goal is to turn a young internet into a profitable market.
Where you pay to log on to the internet, Pay to Access outside Extra websites, Pay to use Search engines. all in a compact package of xxx dollar per months.and just as it is ideal, it's an unrealistic business goal
This story at the very least means for the short term your rates will go up.
theres no need to create conspiracy theories.
They wont be banning anything they're in it to raise cost.Posted 5 years ago # -
So comcast wants to stop me from downloading torrents? Sounds like a pretty bad business decision. I'm sure a lot of people (me included) would stop using their service if comcast makes it so that we can't download torrents.

I wonder if some company wouldn't still offer "neutral" internet access. It sounds like something Google would look into.

Think of it roughly like this
Comcast and other large companies own the roads, Highways and pavements.Comcast and even small companies provide access, Aka, Cars
but you can't go anywhere without the road. This Ruling ratifies ownership to the people who laid those roads. the Big Corporations.
Onwership means a lot of things, but in a business perspective it means i can charge you for using my road.you pay for the car, and now it's very likely that you'll be paying for the road.
and if you're a small company, you either make your own road or you also pay comcast for people to use your cars on their roads.

If something like this happens expect internet users like me and other to rage and start a mass raid at pretty much all the websites related to this.

They get huge fuck off government subsidies to do that, which mainly goes to shareholders. Seriously the US should be heading the net with the amount the government has given those companies. Yet you still get places with download caps
Essentially this is so that they can continue offering "up to 20mb/s" you get 2 mb/s and they blame people...you know...using the connection they paid for. YOU paid for 20mb/s why should YOU be the one suffering because you actually used the connection you paid for. Instead of updating their shitty infrastructure or not bringing in more customers than they can afford to keep on their infrastructure, they just complain to the government. It's like double booking seats in an aeroplane. Apart from you can get away with it.

yeah, but most americans won't know what's going on, while the ones that do might complain for a while but in the end they'll just procrastinate and hope someone else will fix the problem.
americans think too monetarily so nothings going to stop the corps from doing so, so just look the other way and cut ties with the country. well unless you want to benefit by taking advantage of the americans.

Comcast is an evil festering pile of dog flop of an ISP.
I really could not imagine using them as I'd rage from half the shit they pull.Posted 5 years ago # -

Enjoy using the torrent protocol while you can. This might be the single biggest real threat to it ever.
Myself, I have been a newsgroup user for some time, it's not as 'visible'.
Here in Canada, thanks to the lame Bell service, we Canadians are already mostly used to be bullied.
Great time though to be researching hardware tech that conceals just WHAT you are doing online whilst doing it.
