I think hey should introduce and embrace common sense regulations on H material like:

    1. Introduce age verification by showing ID to show that you're 18+.
    3. Introduce age rating as seen on Japanese videogames for manga/dvd/blu ray discs.
    2. Putting shrink wraps on 18+ H mangas/magazines.
    4. Introduce and create a backroom ADULTS ONLY corner section where H-related anime/manga/magazine should reside.

PS: I'm NOT down for regulating what the major publishers and doujin authors are publishing because that's gross violation of freedom expression/speech!

All manga is shrink wrapped in Japan

I don't think that CNN had anything to do with children anyway
just trying to ban fetishes yet again

anyway I think Japan should apply the common sense regulations above to:

    1. Keep the streets Japan's "international city" Tokyo "clean" for foreigners visiting and not get bad impression of Tokyo and Japan.

    2. appease the opponents..... and state to groups like Equality NOW and CNN that further regulating what major publishers and doujin authors are publishing is a gross violation and stifling freedom of speech/expression!

  7. Why? America is the "land of the free" so every other country is not free to express its ideas. If they were then America wouldn't be the only "land of the free".

looks no different from the one down my road.

edit. excluding the H-manga of course, but that is 18+ so I agree with you on that. Even then it isn't that bad.

Japanese are image conscious and I think they don't want their contry to be associated as a place that openly caters to pedophiles.

Believe me... if westerners keep playing 'Japan = land that caters to lolicons' meme, they'd be weary and they might finally do something to shed that 'image' to the outside world.

No other parts of Asia caters to lolicons.

So you want to regulate distribution....in convenience stores
but not in the conventions and direct publishing where they are mainly sold?

why bother regualting? might as well tell kids, don't buy this, instead pirate it off the internet. go free market?

you want to regulate access, because someone else who is not a part of your country or culture is criticizing you?

Nocturne was not joking about cultural imperialism

Unless japan is having some kinda uncontrollable sexual boom
    Surging porn consumption
kids who cant stop masturbating epidemic

why the hell do you need to regulate something thats not a problem?

    I'm just calling for appeasement.

Radical groups inside and outside japan want freedom of speech/expression curtailed or even banned. Those NGOs (japanese domestic or international) are gaining ground and something must be done or they'll end up doing something that otaku fandum will really regret.

The best the japs can do is just put all H and loli-filled anime/manga/magazine in the back corner of the store.

  13. How about Japan hire a Real feminist spokesperson, representative
    to handle domestic policy

Hell you don't even need a feminist, you just need a spokesperson with a brain.

*i just realized....i don't think spokespeople or representative exist in japan...
i remembered the toyota Ceo coming to congress and one interesting commentary was that..they dont have professional peoples to you know,....explain shit.

The head of companies usually go and do it as a sign of Respect.

get a spokesperson make your fucking lives easier.

No offence japan, but a Moe charatcer is not a viable public relations figure, nor is it a domestic policy office position.

For the record, like 1/3 of the manga shown looked to be either Josei or shojo- one even looked like Yaoi (the one with 2 sailors at 3:10).

  16. I'm not sure exactly how you think this will help. It stills exists, it's 20 feet away, in a different part of the store.

Those NGOs with the financial backing and a blessing by CNN... are deadly serious.

Remember that Japan just banned CP as recently as 1999 (at least on paper), and those domestic/foreign NGOs want to go further by putting what it's said on paper to practice, and include drawings.

I'd rather see japan ban child modeling (like those in eastern europe) already to show NGOs that they're doing 'something' to combat CP (just personal preference)

and like I said... what I'm advocating for is better off for the otaku fandom than what the radical domestic/foreign NGOs are advocating!

But it won't leave anyone satisfied. Equality Now wants loli banned completely; they're not going to care if it's just harder to obtain.

  20. i'm not defending japan, if pressured it will buckle.
    i will not be surprised

the only things that japan has going for it,
is that it cannot regulate it's people.
and the fact all men in japan, like hentai.

Cnn and Ngo can have all the finiances they want, but they're never going to influence Public Opinion in any significant way long term.

The Japanese gov't is weak, but that pressure works both ways. (also promotes independent growth with a lack of authorative figures)
