My grant-aunt hates the Japanese (from the stories I heard) and says all kind of stuff about them. She was badly affected by WWII though so I can understand it in some way
I've heard too many people use this excuse for being racist. For some reason, racism is looked down upon in the most fell manner, but when the Second World War is involved, peole suddenly get compassionate.
Reading Firetribe's post made me smile, though. I'll quote it for accessibilty and honour, of course:

I think there may be more to this than censorship. Recall that this didn't begin with the CNN article, it started with Loli bans in Australia and the UK.Then came Unicef trying to protect fictional
children. Next EN and rapelay bans, and then the Sea Shepherd whaling incident during the whole Toyota debacle and lastly, the comment from a State representative. If you put the pieces together, it's not hard to think that, maybe, western media or organizations are trying to bully Japan into submitting to western influences. It is mostly foreigners who are complaining about it, after all.
This is so right on the mark. It doesn't get mentioned often, but it's completely true nonetheless- the facts that Japan's culture is so different from western culture, and that western culture is the dominant culture in the world make Japan such an easy mark for discrimination. The whaling issue, for example? By most western standards, whaling is simply not done. So the large majority of the western populace condemns it, without really knowing why.

Hey, you're so right! That happens all the time! They blindly copy the opinions from their peers and start thinking up arguments after they've copiedformed an opinion.
