Best Visual Novel's you've ever played? XD

Would be helpful but go ahead.

Here's a link for some visual novels with an SRPG element:
http://vndb.org/g339 (not all the games listed are eroge)

Obviously the ones with British flags are the ones that have been translated into English (this includes fan-translations). Also if it doesn't have to be in English then I would recommend you check out some Alicesoft games (the same company that makes the Rance series). They make a lot of SRPG eroge but none of their games get official english releases (at least not to my knowledge).

  3. Hey guys, I'm just wondering if you know any games like Sengoku Rance (One of the best H/Strategy games, though I wouldn't really classify it as visual novel). I only found Utawarerumono similar to it but nothing else.

Try out Tears to Tiara. It's from the same maker as Utawarerumono, but has many more RPG elements to it.

If you're able to play japanese games, just about anything by Alicesoft is of similar genre to the Rance games.

And loli_in_a_box, it honestly sounds like we're arguing in agreement... "I like A + B!"... "Oh yeah, well I like B + A!" I mean... you're arguing about how great the story of Tsukihime is, while the very first thing I said was "the story is superb".

    Try this: http://vndb.org/v74

That is, if you don't mind having to pay or procure the game through "other" means.

The English Patch was released recently it seems; I should start keeping up with what's been happening in the English VN community.

Yeah, the artwork is just gorgeous. That Koyama Hirokazu seems to have made all the artwork for the newer Type-Moon stuff, wonder if Takeuchi is planning on stopping drawing entirely. Well, hope he is just busy with Tsukihime remake~
I look forward to all three titles, but I have a weird gut feeling about Mahoutsukai no Yoru and Girl's Work being completely made by people who weren't part of the original circle. ( I don't know about Mahoutsukai; some sources say the novel was from Nasu, but it's being rewritten by some other guy) You know, like thinking that they are not really "canon". I really want to hear more about the Nasuverse by Nasu himself...I'm really hopeless.^^''

Though different from you, I will most probably have to wait like 1-2 years until they are translated after they are released. I will try learning Japanese next month just for their sake...and some other imouto games. *cough*

Then everything is fine I guess. xD

    My list:

    1. Tsukihime
    2. Wanko to Kurasou ( Can't help it. Boku wa lolicon~ )
    3. Saya no Uta
    4. FSN
    5. Utawarerumono

Though this list would differ greatly if I consider all the loli eroge I played with translators. Even if everyone complains, I really dig moe~

    Edit:

They translated the one without the ero scenes and won't even make a patch for the 18+ one. Just saying so he won't be dissapointed, because he obviously enjoyed the ero scenes in Rance too.

Girl's Work I know is being done by Liar-soft, so no problems there. About Mahoutsukai, if it is being rewritten by someone else, as long as it doesn't deviate too much from the rules of the Nasuverse, I wouldn't mind. If it doesn't go well, however, I'll blame mushroom-san for being lazy.

Also, 1-2 years is more than enough time to learn a great deal of Japanese. ^_^

Oh, did they? Well, if it's like any ero-scene in most visual novels, he won't miss much.

Hmm... got any suggestions for someone with moderate tolerance for mechanical translations? In particular, I really want to play Imouto Jiru, or whatever eroge the OVA was based on- but I haven't been able to track it down. Any idea where I might find it? (it doesn't seem to be on Fakku) Also, from what I've read, Musumaker doesn't sound too appealing.

I'm also anxiously awaiting Koihime Musou... I'm sure that'll bump at least YinYang exchange off my list.

  8. Here is a link.

I hope it still has seeders. You will need to use Atlas, Systran and the likes to translate it, though there isn't that much plot that you wouldn't be able to understand anyway. At least it's not as heavily censored as the OVAs.

    Edit:
You heard anything else about the Musummaker translation yet? It seems to be too hardcore for me, but I would like to confirm it myself since the art is just too cute.

  9. My list:

    1. (I wish I could in good conscience say this were a visual novel) Crimsoness.
    2. Tsukihime
    3. Phoenix Wright
    4. Phantom of Inferno
    5. Sekien no Inganock: What a wonderful People
(4.) 40 days and 40 nights of rain
    (5.) Planetarian

Honorable mention to Saya no Uta.

edit: Sekien in front of Phantom? What was I thinking?

  13. Eh? I finished it in 3 sittings over 1 day, it's like 5 hours. One of those times where I felt rather awkward over enjoying rape...
