You have not played "Odious Manly Genuflection With Terrible Fury: Only True Lamentation"?
GENUFLECT RIGHT NOW SUCKAH!
I think I'll give the same answer here that I gave on the equivalent fakku thread...
1) Fate/Stay Night
2) Wanko to Kurasou
3) KiraKira
4) Edelweiss
5) YinYang XChange
I'm dissapointed at the lack of Tsukihime...

I honestly wouldn't even know what the fuck Tsuki is if I didn't play Melty blood.

How? It's one of the most popular VNs ever.
Not to mention that many think it's better than Nasu's second work FSN.
I hope the remake they are ( hopefully ) working on since 2008 will make the young generations of otakus more aware of it again.
While the story of Tsukihime is superb, it really shows its crude amateur origins. It's one of those "would have been better as a book" situations.
Best Visual Novels? *Thinks*
I'll try and place a number on it, but here's a list centered on English-translated VN's.
1. F/SN
2. アオイシロ (Aoi Shiro)
3. Clannad
4. Tsukihime
5. Chaos;Head
And the untranslated VN's:
0. アカイイト (Akai Ito) - Technically translated, but played it untranslated.
1. Scarlett
2. G-線上の魔王 (G-Senjou no Maou)
3. るいは智を呼ぶ (Rui wa Tomo wo Yobu)
4. F/SN
5. Little Busters EX
I'm sure I'm missing several more, but these ones are what I can remember for now.
Crude amateur origins? In what way?
Also, Angel Notes and Kara no Kyoukai ( in novel form ) were written before Tsukihime, so it's in no way one of his first works.
If you mean the CGs, well, even if they are 10 years old you can't really call them very well made, that's right. Though Nasu's works aren't really VNs you judge on the art. It's much like Ryukishi's stuff, the art gives you eye cancer, but the story is awesome.
Note that I might be biased since I found Tsukihime to be much more fun to read than FSN. xp
Tsukihime at the time was a doujin work (i.e. amateurs), and you can't even pull the age card, since its overall production doesn't stack up well against its peerage such as Kanon and Kana Imouto.
Don't get me wrong, it's very good work given that it was created by a small handful of people during their spare time before there was much in the way of broadband internet. It's probably in the 6-10 region of my top ten list (which this thread doesn't appear to seek to cover). However, apology only goes so far and there are other ways to make a VN shine beyond just a good story.
1. Clannad
2. Chaos Head
3. Fate/Stay Night
4. Kana, my little sister
5. Ever17
Hey guys, I'm just wondering if you know any games like Sengoku Rance (One of the best H/Strategy games, though I wouldn't really classify it as visual novel). I only found Utawarerumono similar to it but nothing else.

Does it have to be in english?

Would be helpful but go ahead.
Well, I was only referring to the story+storytelling itself. It's obvious what happens if you take into account the other factors like art, animation etc of a VN.
And it's even a pretty plausible argument you make there since a VN doesn't only consist of a story. The other factors are what makes it different from an ordinary novel.
But it would have been quite the insult to say Tsukihime is inferior to the above mentioned VNs in the story department.
For example, imagine a FSN on the same production level as Tsukihime, without those pretty CGs, flashy animations, cute seiyuu voices and so on. It sure wouldn't be that popular anymore.^^''

Or imagine Tsukihime with the artist for Mahoutsukai no Yoru with the same production level as F/SN. If that ever happened, everyone's opinion of the game would definitely change.
Personally, I'm just waiting for Girl's Work and Mahoutsukai no Yoru. I really love the artwork done for both.
