not really. it's usually in the progression of a school day.

every other non slice of life story, day or night, relative time isn't particular to the story.

yesterday, in school, this morning, at the gym etc

lol is Shana is slice of life then?

Anyways B Gata H Kei is... Fucking awesome XD Erogami FTW!!!! The boner scene was hilarious XD I love it!

  5. you just answered your own argument haven't you? :P

"it has too much of a focus on other things outside of this daily life portrayal"

tantalzing sexual situation is just fan service, and thats really a given, a non descript genre.

The focus of these school days stories relies on those days
i know it's not restrictive or a requisite, but it's common, so i go with it

I try not to get into actual genre of
    Seinen, Romance, Slapstick etc
because it ruins entertainment, essentially everything boils down to those unoriginal basics of telling a story
you can't enjoy a story if you only know it as [x],[y],[z] genre

Well now that's very subjective. I enjoy anime that fit a genre just fine.

  7. No. The fact that it isn't even close to being a defining characteristic of its premise, but rather an ancillary aspect of it, takes it outside the term. Besides, the argument was already posited that a daily life portrayal in and of itself does not a slice of life anime make. 24 is a look into the daily (also, hourly) life of Jack Bauer. And therein lies the problem with the way the term in question is being defined.

It's not the first time that I've been swayed to watch an anime just from finding out who the seiyuu were. The only reason I watched Kampfer was because it had both Hocchan and Yukarin together (as well as some other very talented seiyuu).

i assume the many aspects of the type of anime it is a a given. the only things that you can pick out that would matter to anime viewers is the slice of life part.

Well if many of the existing shows on tv were, Action, Drama, Crime
i probably would differentiate 24 as a Cia slice of life xD, because you already expect Action, Crime, Drama

it is Subjective, Now choose a shows(s)

    Seinen Romantic Comedy
    Seinen ROmantic Comedy
    Seinen Romantic Comedy
    Seinen Romantic COmedy

i enjoy romantic comedies non obsessively, but at some point i'm going to be a little picky and choose based on more than Seinen Romantic Comedy. :P

  13. That's why the term becomes a problem when you define it the way you're currently defining it -- it's too broad. It has effectively become a term defining a common feature found in all stories. It ignores the intent of what the term was originally derived for, which is to create a categorical distinction between certain stories and other stories. Is there a seinen romantic comedy that doesn't portray a character's daily life? Wouldn't that make them all slice of life?

The way the term has been consistently used is not as a consummate synonym of "daily life," but as a portrayal of the ordinary in life -- not in the sense that one portrays what is considered normal, but that one portrays something in a way that is seen as something of the ordinary, sometimes even mundane. We typically divide stories into comedy and drama. "Slice of life" would be something that sits close to the fence between the divide. (Here's a distinction I probably have to point out, though: not all stories sitting on this divide are slice of life.) Slapstick, a comedic device, is usually a device contrary to this idea, as are histrionic displays of tragedy; a pretty good litmus test for considering what is "slice of life" or not is seeing just how often such devices of comedic/tragic extremes are used. The premise of B Gata seems to skew heavily towards comedic slapstick, giving little room for a slice of life portrayal of its characters. It remains to be seen, though, if the show will actually veer from the expectations proffered by its premise.

  14. that probably true. the problem is i'm not an expert [whoever does this classification]
i tend to common knowledge and simple understanding.

"Wouldn't that make them all slice of life?"
it probably would, but if that classification was made back then, we would just make up a new name to identify and simplify how we feel it should be described now.
noone really sticks to a professional description in an average setting

whether that good or not, meh..

"if the show will actually veer from the expectations proffered by its premise."
it's not. what you see is always what you get xD

The only thing that actually changed by the end was that Himeji got closer to Akihisa.
