Controversy gets smart people and dumb together to give a particular website enough page views with people twittering and posting when non of their opinion actually matter
except to manipulate that debate as more controversy, more interest and more outrage
except people arent outraged they're just giving you their opinions
the power of propaganda comes when you can take one side of the debates
tranform those shared opinion into "reason" and political power which may include anything from viewship, money to
collective activist in the form of leading the opinion of a controlled group.
so it's not exactly smearing japan, as it is free publicity for this game
bad and good publicity.
people like it they buy the game
poeple don't like it they complain.
