I'd say go with 10. 7 and 8 are good too but the graphics might put you off.
There is simply no way for a game of that caliber to put off somebody just because of the graphics.
Also 8 can be tedious so you might not wanna try it until you're a hardcore fan.
Good advice, perhaps after 7 and 10, but not after 12.
It seems playing 7 may be inevitable since there's so much of it. If you know people that like talking about 7 all the time then you might wanna play it just so you know what they're talking about.
Well, yes. that being only one of many reasons why to play it. Perhaps the most explicit one will be "Because its fun", let alone a great game from almost every aspect.
Persona 3 - In my mind, the best jrpg ever. Pretty slow paced. Live a regular dating sim life. Interact w/ classmates to make them like you. Then fight at nights. Easy to get hooked on. One of the few games I actually went out of my way to reach level 99.(I haven't played 4 yet but I recommend that too)(Warning: Persona is very japanese oriented. If you don't know a lot about japan, you might be confused and put off)
I completely agree here. Good choice of words. I have also not played P4, but am definitely looking forward to it.
Star Ocean - I only played the third one. I really enjoyed it. Good story and gameplay. You might wanna get 4 since you have access to a ps3. It definitely looks great.
I played a couple of titles on the PSP. After 50 hours of play, I decided that I was left disappointed with this game after all.
Honorable mentions:
Grandia 3 - probably one of the most cliche stories I've ever heard. So bad it was hilarious. But that was also part of its charm. If you don't take it seriously and just play it, I think you'll have a lot of fun. The one huge redeeming point for this game was the battle system. I loved this battle system. Probably one of the best battle systems I've ever played.
Will check it out then, mainly because of the marvelous battle system you mentioned.
Tales series - I've played a few tales games. They're all pretty good. I recommend Tales of Phantasia for the gba. I've also played legendia which was okay. It got boring after awhile though.
I also recommend it. You should look in to the series really.
3, never did actually beat it. I got up to the very end and just stopped playing. I forget why. I think it got too boring. The early ones didn't have much of a story.
Well yes, I share your opinion here, but even though they didn't have that much of a story, it impressed with other aspects.
7 was fun. First one I played actually. But when I played it the first time, my attention span was too short. I never got out of midgar. Then I played it again a few years later and beat it in two weeks. It was good but I think people exaggerate over it.(special moment - fighting sephiroth boss battle(not the press omnislash button one), lengthy fight but holding on without too much danger. Then Sephy knocks all of my characters health down to 1. I heal and use limit breaks to finish him in next turn.)
My first Final Fantasy as well. But I would hardy call it exaggerated, more like it left quite impression on me, a positive one at that. Also, unlike the first titles, the story was extremely skillfully woven.
8 had a similar problem to 7. First time I played it, I was bored out of my mind. Didn't care about it at all. Stopped playing before I even passed the seed exam. But the second time I played it, I sped through the game in about 2 weeks again. Also good game. Got pretty attached to the characters.(special moment - beating the final boss with level 20 characters. I had a lvl 28 squall but everyone else was around 20. Most annoying fight ever. Nearly had a heart attack each time she attacked me.)
Nice, can you go in detail about the 20th level thing please?
10 was the first final fantasy I beat. kept me going through the whole story. I had lots of fun with this one and it made me go back to play the previous ones.(special moment - well it's not really a moment but I played this game twice. The first time naturally auron was my strongest character, the second time i went through it, it was Yuna. My Yuna is so ridiculously strong now. I used the equip that triples experience. she has all the strongest magic(black&white). 1 mp cost. fastest character. even faster than rikku and tidus. Summons do 99999 per attack. beat omega(i think that's what he was called) in 2 turns w/ 1 of my weakest summons. beat final boss in 2 turns. I think I made her too strong.)
FFX is most definitely a game that everyone should go through twice. Although I didn't die once the first time I played through it, I had some trouble with the final boss. The second time though, it was almost like watching only the movies and play an occasional boss battle now and then.
12....the story was weaker than previous games in my opinion. I did like some things they did though. Making vaan some tag a long hero was interesting. I like that he had a relatively minor role when it came down to it. The story was really about ashe and dalmasca. vaan was just along for the ride. balthier was awesome. The world was beautiful. battle system was convenient. Nothing spectacular stood out though. Still a good game.
Probably the first addition to the library that I just don't have the will to finish. Somehow, in all the previous titles, the story drove me to continue, while here, you basically have to powerlevell 30+ hours just to be able to not die 2 hours up the story. Although I can't say I despise leveling up, rpgs I've finished with level 99 (+), but here it was just too annoying. Probably the one that had the less impact on me.
FF6: Story was differently woven from other titles, in a way that I sympathized with, so I can say that this title remained in my memories as a pleasant experience. Although there were some frustrating moments to also remember.

Just a little note on my personal experience. I raised Chihiro's social link to the max. As it advanced, more events happened. Also, after I maxed out the link, there was a love confession event. Screen fades to black. Lot's of implied greatness.
You have successfuly tempted me to play it again...
Oh I forgot to mention Odin Sphere. I loved the story. Gameplay isn't command based. It's like a side scrolling 2d game. I loved just about everything in this game except for the horrible loading and slow down during gameplay. Not so bad that it couldn't be played but noticeable.
Odin Sphere is indeed one of the best games in my library. It was the successor of Princess Crown if I am not mistaken, and with a new addition to the Wii, things are looking good.
Will be looking forward to discussing more with you.
