why the hell are you all typing like this?

    ok wtf is going on!?

You're probably not used to adult/mature discussion that is why you feel left out.

If you think this forum is just about trolls, loli, and the likes, you probably have to get out of here. If you think I'm here for the same thing, I'm not; if you think I'm trolling you, I'm not. You're just too easy to annoy and it is somewhat entertaining.

    Personally ~

I will be honest concerning DUBs.. I am NOT A FAN of them ~

Having continually seen animé in English since the 1960's up until the mid 1980's, I always considered them fine (or thought so) and I (thought) DUBS were the shite, then I was exposed to the original language version of AKIRA, Bubblegum Crisis, I was instantly hooked and I NEVER reverted since.

Now, I submit, that a - RARE FEW - are good in english, like Cowboy Bebop and Tenchi, but those are far and nbetween..

    ====

Now I am - "tolerant" - of Bleach being in English, and admittedly Rukia's voice gets getting used to in English after a long while, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it.

The (original) characters voice and persona carry along together and is needed, because it completes that character fully.

DUBs also have this "thing" where they need to add accents and meaningless nuance in order to distinguish characters. - (imo) - this is not necessary as the character themselves is all what is needed to distinguish them, via hair colour and their own unique persona's and qualities.

Now I have not seen the English version of K-On! but, if its anything as cookie mentioned and it has affected the Characters as he states.

Then its just proves my point..

Leave the language as it, sub it... and forget DUBs!

Yes, there are some shows that are really good and can be compared to the original dubs. For the movies, I think it is because it is sanctioned by the original directors themselves, of course the original directors will not allow the personalities of their masterpiece to be altered and be misunderstood.

Gundam Wing, I personally like/approved the English dub, it was well conveyed and the personalities were really preserved. I've heard about 3 languages from the same anime and thought it was good.

But I realized at some point as to why, I found out that in Gundam Wing, the personalities and emotions that are used are very natural or should I say not too exaggerated like most of the Anime today. That is why foreign languages can be easily integrated.

As for Animax, I have a theory as to why they use English very much.

In the rest of Asia, Anime is considered for "children", also with that, children are assumed to be illiterate or slow in reading, it is assumed that children would be bored reading subtitles in the show and would just focus on the pictures. In the end, the children wouldn't understand the story or message.

Because of that, Animax tends to use the English dub, thinking that anyway it is mostly children that are watching, and the adult/teen patrons are only a minority.

Wait, hold on, they made an English DUB for K-ON? Or is it just a highly sub version.

Yes, k-On! is being aired in English at Animax-Asia at 8pm. They also air the original Japanese version at 12am.

As For Gantz, I could have recorded it, but my TV tuner is broken and I took out the cable/wire so I couldn't...

I absolutely love the Tenchi dub, especially Ryoko's dub voice. I was really upset when I found out that Petrea Burchard wasn't able to reprise her role for the 3rd oav and GXP. I was even more upset when I found out that Mona Marshal was going to be Ryoko's new english voice (seriously, who thought that Izzy from Digimon would be a fitting choice for Ryoko?).

    ^ THIS!!

    Ndeed, and I agree...

This was also a remarkable instance where a DUB was better than the original.

For some strange reason, the original *just* didn't fit at all, like they were tired or had no interest in the project, and it threw me off that the English DUB was far superior to the original.

Plus, I WANT TO KNOW! - Where is Ryoko ZERO's Theme at?! and I mean the FULL theme, not the one that is spliced together on Youtube.

  8. For me, I really don't care. I neutral when it comes to the dub/sub/raw war. Everybody who's bitching over language really needs a reality check. Ditch the tribal loyalties and lets all be united under anime.

    WTF did I just watch?

Never read the manga, but from what I understand, the anime took such massive alternative interpretation as to only correlate characters and basic premise.

Subbed, it's not bad- it had a few low points, but overall worth watching- maybe a 6.5/10 (on a scale where 5 is the turning point for "decent watch while bored" to "painful to watch").

That's the Kurokami show....I want he "K-On!" English he's referring to.

I remember a site that had mp3s for a lot of the music from the multiple Tenchi series. I think it was called "muyo.org" but I'm not sure if it's still around. If it's still up then it might have the song you're looking for.

I just read some more of the chapters (currently on ch 16). I thought that loli was just a filler character but apparently she appears later in the manga and the anime decided to include her early. Just like the rest of that episode, her scenes were a lot different from what happened in the manga. The main character isn't her neighbor and he doesn't really like her either (Kuro liked her though but the anime didn't let them meet each other).

  11. Dubs are only good for one thing.

Some days you want to 'watch' a show, without actually needing to look at the screen.

Lately I've been getting in a lot of 'watching' while otherwise engaged in some other activity (mainly working on plastic models).

Some (fucking rare 'some' that too) dubbed dvd releases are not 'dreadful'.
But I have yet to listen to a single dub that was better than a decent sub.

Some dubs (read that as way too many) are good justifications for capital punishment.

    That's a pretty extreme view.

    It's already screwed up.

Anyway, I didn't know about the Audio Switching, can you tell me more about it?

Ours is stuck with the English dub.

This might vary between cable providers from country to country but mine, Astro, allows me to switch to the original audio file, instead of the painful dubs. Works for all anime on Animax Asia by Astro but I'm not sure about the K-ON! dub (haven't watched it)

To those who have watched it on Astro (to fellow mlysins), can you change to jap audio for K-ON as well? Apart from the 12pm telecast?

  15. I've just downloaded and now, I'm converting the first episode. I will come back later to tell you what I think about it.

I recognize they switched with number a of dub companies and actors. But that wasn't the worse I've seen.

Try the Bible Black Dub, or better yet, ANY hentai Dub and come back to me.

    ^THIS!

Admittedly ~ I DID TRY some Hentai DUBs...just to experience it....

~ and my ears are still caked with dried blood when I was exposed to that atrocity named Bible Black English DUB!

    THAT WAS BEYOND HORRID!!

The ONLY thing I can say in a positive light, about the rest of Hentai English DUBs, is that they are similar as the 3D counterparts, in the fact that they can't act for shite, because (at least) the only thing that saves them, is the physical actions which replace those traumatic inducing voices ...

  19. All Hentai that are dubbed should be taken and burned

    who cares about uncensoring?

Some hentai get pretty badly censored. Subbed and uncensored hentai is the best, especially fansubbed.
