   K-On! TV premiered a while ago on Animax Asia. I watched the whole back to back episodes for the sake of review/comparison with the original Japanese TV version.

   Before the show premiered, I have witnessed commercials and promotions about the Anime, the promotion was very straight forward at the same time annoying, spoiling much of the scenes specially the most memorable ones. The voice over from the commercials were very annoying, they always implicate the words Moe/Cute/Snacks. It was like they were saying exactly the same thing from the front page of this site about K-On, but the difference is that it's in a positive tone, like for example, the site ridicules the Anime for just being a Sweet Snack Moe blob, while Animax promotes the Anime for being just a Sweet Snack Moe Anime. The commercials or promotions BTW showcased original voices with subtitles.

   I enthusiastically waited for the show to premiere. When the show finally started, I was appalled. Hearing the voice of Yui at the beginning of the show was very awkward. Having seen the show in the original Japanese cast, it wasn't very much good to hear. The whole show was in English (it was not mentioned in the commercials that it would be in English).

   I tried to watch the whole back-to-back episode just for the sake of reviewing it. It was a pain to hear them.

   I set my mind to consider that because it's in English, there might be some omission on some of the jokes and tones, but it's sad that everything wasn't fitting.

   Yui is a "dumb/clumsy" character but her Moe-ness compensates/hides her bad parts, the Japanese dub really makes her cute and adorable. All the emotions are very well executed. But in the Animax version, the very essence of Yui's character was lost, Yui sounds now like a 30 year old woman who's trying too hard to fit with high school girls and tries to be cute but ends up being annoying and unwanted. It wasn't even in par with Lucky Star's English dub.

   As for the other Characters, it was the same, Mio, Ritsu, Tsumugi, they almost had the same voice actors and all the emotions weren't very well executed, it was bland. The personalities were lost. They killed the Anime, the Anime can't stand on the animation on it's own, the Anime relies on the dubbers more than anything else in this case.

   As for Animax, they really have a bad record for most viewers. Animax used to be cool when they broadcast Anime in original Japanese with subtitles. Animax's in-house dubbers are too incompetent, they use the same dubbers on every other Anime that they had shown in English, they even dubbed the already English dubbed "Welcome to NHK!". The dubbers and directors are taking the dub for granted. An everything else is destroyed. No wonder they're getting bad ratings.

   I don't have the video yet (or it might now be possible due to copyright, etc...) to show you since it was just aired a while ago.

   Though, you could imagine just how irritating the voices were.

   I have to wait 3 more hours for the Original Dubbed Japanese Version to premiere.

   I hope it would not be annoying as the English version.

   Is animax the company responsible for the goddawful Kurokami dub? I for a while I was watching the sub because it came out earlier than the fansubs, and I very nearly quit watching because it was so bad.

   And so I've the show again, now in Japanese dub. The show wasn't damaged, it was even presented in wide-screen format. It was generally good.

   Before, I came across a MAD about K-On, there was a part about a ghost that appeared in the first episode.

   While watching the MAD, I thought it was a joke, since the MAD is heavily edited.

   While watching the Anime a while ago, it was my second time re-watchng it (since K-On! isn't so much worthy of re-watching that you could only re-watch in a whim), I suddenly remembered the MAD (watch below), and to my surprise the scene that I saw was not a joke, it was real. I was amazed that I didn't think of confirming it by opening up my archives. long story short, it got me.

   Animax has a very bad reputation about dubs and censorship in Pan Asia. They use the same dubbers in almost all of their English dubbed programs.

   Though, they get to show us new Anime programs that are in original dub at the same time as the Japanese broadcast or the same week. The problem with same-time-broadcasting is that there aren't any subtitles. You could watch it though in the encore Telicast with subs.

   The dub of Kurokami was aired alongside the japanese version right? I heard the dub had some really good actors but I've also heard that it really sucked.

   Yeah, it was simulcasted with English Dub- and yes, terrible terrible dub quality. I don't know if it was just rushed, or if the directors and sound masters just dropped the ball.

   Laura Baily gave one of her worst performances ever with Kuro. Wil Wheaton played a far better teenager 20 years ago in Star Trek: TNG- and it's not like he's lost the ability to deliver lines, because he was totally convincing in his cameo in The Big Bang Theory (granted acting like a jackass in a card tournament is a much different beast than playing an anime hero).

   I took a quick glance at it to remind myself what I disliked about the dub. Main thing that stood out was excessive melodramatic emphasis... which is pretty consistent throughout the entire show.

   My only beef with them is the lousy and painful dubbing job. I could cry listening to the dubs. It just hurts my ears until I change the audio preference back to nippongo...

   Oh Animax, pls don't screw up this show too...

   As an Admitted DUB enthusiast - I will be the Judge of how bad it is. I often chastised the who were planning a 'Fan Dub' over the summer on YouTube because "They" were reading the girls the way 'they wanted them to be- NOT how they are intended given their MOEness & Personalities

   I will watch and see if it's Crap from an English perspective.

    Anyway, I didn't know about the Audio Switching, can you tell me more about it?

    Ours is stuck with the English dub.

    Dude!...someone hook me up with a Link to an English Dub! I need to hear this so I can judge! So this is Official? Animax got "K-On!"?

    As long as Mugi & Mio sound fine I don't care. I did like the english bumpers used as commericals on Animax's website that was in English.

    WTF did I just watch? The acting seemed fine at first but around the second half of the episode it really took a dive (especially when the actors tried to show emotion). I think the best acting came from either the ramen guy or the dog.

    As bad as the voice acting was, it wasn't the worst part of the episode IMO. The script itself seemed like it was trying way too hard to be dramatic. I've only read the first 5 chapters of the manga and this entire episode was almost completely different from what I remember of those chapters. What about the main character borrowing money from that one girl and making a video game with his friends? And why didn't he get his arm cut off during that fight? At least the guy that attacks them at the ramen stand put up a better fight. Smashing Kuro's face into that car window was a nice addition to the episode.

    That's the Kurokami show....I want he "K-On!" English he's referring to.

    Mugi doesn't sound a rich and elegant lady anymore, all four of them sounds the same with just a bit of emotion/expression differences. Mio just sounds too plain.

    You might have to wait longer since it was just aired a while ago. But I doubt it that if you find an English version, it would be the same as Animax.

    I will be honest concerning DUBs.. I am NOT A FAN of them ~

    Having continually seen animé in English since the 1960's up until the mid 1980's, I always considered them fine (or thought so) and I (thought) DUBS were the shite, then I was exposed to the original language version of AKIRA, Bubblegum Crisis, I was instantly hooked and I NEVER reverted since.

    Now, I submit, that a - RARE FEW - are good in english, like Cowboy Bebop and Tenchi, but those are far and nbetween..

    The reason this is? - is because what cookie stated and its truth spoken...

    Now I am - "tolerant" - of Bleach being in English, and admittedly Rukia's voice gets getting used to in English after a long while, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it.

    The (original) characters voice and persona carry along together and is needed, because it completes that character fully.

    DUBs also have this "thing" where they need to add accents and meaningless nuance in order to distinguish characters. - (imo) - this is not necessary as the character themselves is all what is needed to distinguish them, via hair colour and their own unique persona's and qualities.

    Now I have not seen the English version of K-On! but, if its anything as cookie mentioned and it has affected the Characters as he states.

    Then its just proves my point..

    Leave the language as it, sub it... and forget DUBs!

    Hey...I love Kuroko (Railgun) and who ever does it, it will never be as purring and sexy as the jap actress but I will still try to enjoy a dub. I guess cause I see everything as Film & Live Action (in English) dubs don't bug me.

    Post a LINK how is Deth seeing this too? Someone post a trailer or a clip atleast...just show me Mugi & Mio.

    Oh Yeah- My Play-Asia K-On! figures came today! I bought a Rin Tosaka & Mio poseable one with guitar & accessories - they're very high quality. I haven't opened them yet. I think I'm going to put Mio on my desk or by my TV.
