Anyway, Taiwan isn't really the "good" one either. Chang Kai Shek's regime was marked by an oppressive rule of the Taiwanese people, and Taiwan, like much of the rest of east Asia (yes, even Japan), largely remains a single party state to this day. It has gotten better, yes; one might even say that the ROC is the better one. But good? That's certainly up for debate.

Democracy is a Western institution. It shouldn't be surprising the East has no real concept of it. They only went along with it in certain places to get respected by those who had the power and prestige which are the only things truly important to Asians.
