  1. c'mon guys, now I realized what the problem is...yes we know how our country is plagued by corruption and deception...

but we, as countrymen didn't do anything about it! we are just sitting in front of our computers typing and blabbering about our problems and not doing even a teeny-weeny bit for it!

We(yes, I'm included) need to go out and make a change to our country..there is still hope for our country...

  2. Oneiros,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have a bit of a backlog of stories to write, but this may be worthy to bring to the main web site. Artefact is pretty big about highlighting censorship news items. If I don't use it, one of the others may.

And just to get this thread back to a lighter note, take a look at this:
    http://www.muckflash.com/?p=273

tl;dr version: Man inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam designs robotic suit and attempts to rob national bank in Manila. Robbery foiled because he's laughed out of the bank.

(Wanted to use this for Sankaku, but sadly I couldn't verify if it was true or not or just an urban legend)

I'm glad you made mention of it at least. That's pretty amusing.

One of the most important things that my PolSci professor taught me was to never romanticize. Never think of reality as something better than it actually is. Deal with it as it is. Face it as it is. It was Quezon who said "I prefer a country run like hell by Filipinos to a country run like heaven by Americans.". Well he got his wish. Does that mean you prefer having a country run like hell, ichiro? Why can't we have a country run like heaven by Filipinos?

Are you saying those dead heroes of ours can still vote in utter fucking idiots into government? Oh wait yeah, that's possible, I'm pretty sure a ton of those ballots have dead people's names on them.

And I'm not saying the Marcoses are dumb. In fact I consider Marcos and his brood to be a bunch of smart fucking pythons who'll swallow you alive if you're not careful. I'm saying the people who voted for them are.

But feel free to wallow in fantasyland Philippines, where people love their country and vote for the candidate best suited for the position instead of the candidate they were paid to vote for.

Speak for yourself. Despite my pessimism I still suffer from idiotic and idealistic notions, which is why I'm working for the education sector of the government. I keep telling myself everyday that I'm helping in my own little way so that I won't be lured into one of those multi-national corporations that pays double to triple what I'm making.

good for you then...better tell the other youths who are still engaged playing DoTa and other mindless online games in net cafes and not studying any more...

now I wonder what is a person who works for the education sector doing in a site like this? otaku? I'm so glad I've met a teacher who loves anime..thank you...

  10. Am I the only one who found humor in Otakumanichiwa's obviously tongue-in-cheek, not meant words?

    What you said.

LOL, I thought we dropped this once already.
    You guys can get testy.

People make fun of and generalize about my country and its people all the time!
I take it all in stride and accept some of it.

yah me too, I didn't even thought that ichiro would make such a big fuss about it. He just literally switched off and raged over me, sorry if I stepped beyond the boundaries of nationality here, but isn't it too much to criticize a person's knowledge about his or her country by just looking at his/her educational attainment? That was harsh.

EXACTLY! If I can only treat you for brunch or whatnot! I hope every Filipino, no, every human is open minded as Ukonkivi!

  14. honestly i see this is turning into a cultural shit storm and completely derailing for the original topic. you do realize the government only looks for stuff that will make them look good. it doesn't matter where you are. as long as you don't start some secret underground child porn ring be it 2d or 3d they aren't going to really care. they just want large busts so they can lie and pretend that they're doing something that the "honest" god fearing people feel is wrong. its just show as long as you don't amass hundreds of thousands of videos and all kinds of thing they can blow out of proportion you're fine.

Completely understandable in my mind. I applaud everyone else's patriotism for the Philipines, but I think it takes some people to look in on their country every so often, point out the flaws, and (dare I say it?) make some corrections.
I know not every country is a utopia and I doubt Ichiro would say the same, myself not knowing a heck of a lot about the country won't even try to go there, but I don't think your criticism was entirely out of place, if, at most, improperly phrased to generalize a collective.
But that's the lesser of the evils when we are discussing the greater picture.

Don't back down. If you have an opinion, debate rage I say.

I just figured we had moved on a bit from this since Jin's article...
