OK HERE WE GO
I cut it down a lot, and hopefully made it more interesting to read as well. Please tell me if you have and questions, comments, or loopholes.
--------------------
TL;DR:
Post proof you’re a couple as stated in the family tree, then wait until we have 16 total participants. The first round will begin on Sunday, May 16, 12:00 AM EST (probably). When it is your round, post 3 pictures of your waifu adhering to that week’s theme. Other users vote on which waifu should advance, and voting closes Sunday, May 23 12:00 AM EST, with a new theme and two new contestants. Continue in typical tournament style until we have SanCom’s Waifu of the Year!
Qualification
1) You are only allowed to assign 1 waifu as an entrant.
2) Your waifu may only be a character from a published material (anime, manga, video game, doujinshi, etc.). Original characters are not allowed.
3) The character must be your waifu as claimed in the "SanCon Family Tree (Actual) - discussion". Entrants must provide proof of their union (or whatever you want to call it) upon applying, be it a direct link to Deth’s confirmation post, a screen cap of the family tree (The SanCon Family Tree in Geni.com), or some other option you came up with all by yourself, you clever dickens.
4) Husbando are not eligible to enter, sorry. Perhaps a Mai Husbando tournament will be arranged in the future?
Participation & Format
1) To participate, you must be one of the first 16 users after the entrant submission time begins on Sunday, May 16, 12:00 AM EST.
2) The participants in each round will be determined by the order in which they are received. In other words, if Joe, Matt, and Rastapopoulos apply one after the other, Joe will be Entrant #1, Matt will be Entrant #2, and so on.
3) So that the many sets of numbers floating around do not become disorienting, the rounds will be referred to by letter. The first round will be called Round A, the second will be Round B, and so on.
4) Round A will be between Entrants #1 and #2, Round B will be #3 and #4, and so on until Round H. At the end of Round H (the first full elimination), we will move to the first round of the quarterfinals, Round I, and then the semi-finals, beginning with Round M. The final bracket will be round O.
5) An official bracket will be created when the 16 slots have been filled.
Match Rules (this is the most important part ok)
1) When a round begins, both entrants must post 3 illustrations of their waifu relating to that week’s theme. The themes will be random each week, inspired by anything from the 100 Themes Challenge to a recent news post to what I had for lunch that day. Be prepared for anything.
2) If you are an artist, and would like to draw a picture of your waifu, you are limited to one for the entire tournament. This gives an unfair advantage against our less artistically inclined users.
3) Images containing other characters in addition to your waifu are allowed, but they should not share the focus of the image unless that week’s theme says otherwise. For example, your waifu eating with other characters in a group shot is not allowed, unless the theme is “Picnic”.
4) 3D cosplay photos are not allowed. That is not your waifu; that is a Japanese woman bugging out her eyes to look like your waifu. Illustrations of your character cosplaying are acceptable.
5) You may provide a short (no more than a paragraph) description of why you chose each picture, but this is not required.
6) An image may only be used once throughout the entire tournament.
7) Since the forums allow you to edit your post until an hour after it is submitted, entrants may change images until they are locked in.
8) If one (or both) of the entrants does not post before the next Saturday, they are disqualified. Sorry, people, gotta move things along.
9) If you know you will not be able to post your images on the week of your face-off, as long as you notify me beforehand, I will see if your match can be rescheduled.
Voting
1) Any registered SanCom user, aside from those participating in that round, may vote on which waifu they feel deserves to advance. It is recommended you provide the reasons for your choosing, but not required.
2) A voter’s choice should be determined by the entrant’s adherence to the theme, the waifu’s appeal, and how accurate the images are to the character. If you do not know the character well enough, or the theme dictates they would be acting out-of-character, the third criterion is not as important.
3) Once the forum locks a voter’s post, they are not allowed to change their vote.
Tournament Schedule
Right now – users begin signing up to participate. The exact week when we begin will likely change, but setting a short deadline will inspire people to act now instead of procrastinating.
Sunday, May 16, 12:00 A.M. EST (so basically Saturday night) – The first round’s theme is announced, Entrants #1 and #2 post their three images. An hour after the second poster uploads his, other users may vote until Sunday, May 23, 12:00 A.M. EST, in which voting is closed and the next round’s theme is announced.
Miscellaneous
1) If you are an artist or a musician, feel free to make a poster, theme song, or anything else to promote the tournament.
2) Start collecting as many illustrations of your waifu as possible, or divorce and choose a new waifu if you’re a heartless jerk. If you have not yet claimed a waifu, stake your claim ASAP in the family tree.
3) All official updates will be prefaced simply by “OFFICIAL UPDATE,” followed by the date. Should you ever need to review the rules, search for the phrase so you don’t have to wade through pages of other comments.
