  1. Why do people upload insanely huge, uncompressed images like these:

    http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/?tags=nakano_azusa

They are each about 8-15 MB and consistently fail before finishing the download. Every other site similar to this one understands huge files are a pain in the ass and resizes them, yet this site does not. Is there any way to download the files without them failing 1/10 of the way through or should I just give up on ever viewing them? This isn't the first set I've come across on here that I've wanted to view but could not due to the sheer size of the image files. I would love to know what the people uploading them are thinking.

  2. Link to what is so obvious instead of posting a pair of reaction pics older than the internet itself?

It's no surprise it happens, I'm asking if anyone knows a way around it or why I cannot view them. Stop trying to get the wittiest response you can muster into a post and just answer the damn question.

Well, look. The SanCom channel resizes the images and gives you a preview, right? If you like the image, and really want to download it, just save it from the link, instead of loading it in your browser before saving it.

  4. well some of us might have access to high quality printers~

so we might keep the high quality images for later use...and some of us might like close up views of certain parts...

Thanks. I assume by SanCom channel you mean the area I linked to in the OP. However, the link is a new page, not the image itself. Like I said, whether I try to view it in the browser or right-click and save the image or even the link on the image page (the one with the resolution and file size) it will still fail before completion. This leads me to believe it is an issue with the Sankaku servers. I find it hard to belive nobody has a way around this though, since the large files appear to be so common, how does everyone else download or view them? Is there a time of day to do it at? Am I simply doing it at a peak time or are the servers acting slow lately?

Just for clarities sake, try to load one of the manga images on the OP link, they should be around 9 MB a piece, some upwards of 15MB. I was only able to download the 3rd and 4th images, the rest failed a partial way through the download.

  6. Big size = Good quality!

Someone get the guy a cookie.

Look, there is actually a limit, when the resolution doubles or triples the average maximum resolution of your monitor, you're only wasting quality. You can upload something with hundreds of DPI but the cost is a fucking huge file when a file with a significantly smaller DPI would suffice. It's a simple game of costs and benefits, if the files cost me hours of download for a barely noticeable increase in quality, then there is an issue. The balance is achieved when you have a good quality and a manageable (read: not fucking insanely huge), file size which results in swift viewing of the image. At the very least, a conscientious uploader would have the foresight to consider uploading both the uncompressed image and the compressed image. There is a reason image compression algorithms exist and it's not because the computer gods are out to steal the extra pixels from your loli's flat chest.

Alas, however, that is not the point of the thread. The point is, how do you go about downloading these files, or even viewing them, when the server cuts off the download before it is even able to finish?

  8. Then download the thumbnail instead of the whole file.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have another nerd caver trying to break his way into the internet smart ass routine.

    Anybody with a serious reply?

  11. its an issue that they're working on...

theres nothing we can really do about it...

all we can do is wait until they fix that issue...

  12. Well at least I know you are both too dense to even read a reply longer than 2 sentences. I'll just wait until someone who has a solution that isn't copypasta to reply.

Cool okay, that's a reasonable answer.

  14. Protoguitar actually has a valid point, not sure why you all jumped him like that.

The channel currently isn't serving resized samples for huge files, as it should (and usually does), but the full sized image in all cases. It's most likely an issue that was introduced in the recent upgrade/migration.

As arielaol said, we already know and it will be fixed. I'll probably get to it a little later today, after taking care of some other adjustments.

  15. Splat has given your answer. With the new upgrade, there are still bugs to be fixed. Servers been slow as of late. Please be patient and bear with us.

I personally like obnoxiously large pictures. Just my taste.

Suggestion: If it fails to load, you can always try to reload the image. It may take some time.

@unellmay: Please refrain from replying to posts as you have been doing in this thread and that lucky star thread. Posts like that are frowned upon by artefact and can get you a ban.

  16. protoguitar32. You are not the only one facing such problems. It could be due to various factors.

Perhaps your Internet service provider sucks isn't up to the mark, or you could be downloading during peak periods. Your peak period (in whatever your timezone) isn't always the same as the channel's server's.

You could also try some download managers which split files into multiple sections and simultaneously download them.

Oh, since you'd just registered, "murk loar" helps too.

*Kicks unellmay02 in the shin.* We hope you like your stay here in SanCom, protoguitar32. ^_^

  17. The insanely huge images are just there as an option, there's no need to download them if the normal sample is sufficient.

When displaying any image over a few MB, most browsers are likely to have problems (I find this on a wide variety of sites using FireFox and the like - often browsers refuse to even display them for some reason), and most browsers are also poor at downloading large files.

I would suggest that you save any larger images to disk without viewing them on page; it may also be desirable to use a resume capable download manager.

Ah, you're right. Looks like my memory failed me. My suggestion would be to go to the page that has the absurdres picture on it, abort loading it and then right click to save the image.

The sample images aren't showing up and it's going straight to the full images. That seems to be the main problem in this case. Splat says he's already working on it.
