  1. Tokyo - A bizarre traffic accident might become a costly mistake to a Japanese woman. The 23 year old student Michiko Sato ran over an elderly woman in Tokyo. She didn't decide to stop, but drove all the way home, 7 kilometers away, with the dead body of her victim still stuck halfway through her front window.

Sato's partner immediately alarmed the police after she arrived home.

„The suspect was so shocked, that she had no clue what to do.”

according to a police officers statement. According to him, the woman wasn't driving under influence, when she caused the fatal accident.

The woman faces a jailtime of 17 years, if found guilty by court.

She freaked and made a beeline to where she would feel safest, her home. It makes perfect logical sense.

more like a special case, once you are shocked like that you shut yourself off.
It would make perfect logical sense if she had no idea about the laws,so logic fail?
But bad for her,she is gonna pay for her mistake.

    Acute stress reaction, aka shock.

The onset of a stress response is associated with specific physiological actions in the sympathetic nervous system, both directly and indirectly through the release of epinephrine and to a lesser extent norepinephrine from the medulla of the adrenal glands. The release is triggered by acetylcholine released from pre-ganglionic sympathetic nerves. These catecholamine hormones facilitate immediate physical reactions by triggering increases in heart rate and breathing, constricting blood vessels in many parts of the body—but not in muscles (vasodilation), brain, lungs, and heart—and tightening muscles. An abundance of catecholamines at neuroreceptor sites facilitates reliance on spontaneous or intuitive behaviors often related to combat or escape.

    Symptoms of acute stress reaction

The symptoms show great variation but typically include an initial state of "daze", with some constriction of the field of consciousness and narrowing of attention, inability to comprehend stimuli, and disorientation.

This state may be quickly followed by either further withdrawal from the surrounding situation (to the extent of a dissociative stupor), or by agitation and overeactivity, anxiety, impaired judgement, confusion, detachment, and depression. Autonomic signs of panic anxiety (tachycardia, sweating, flushing) are also commonly present.

The symptoms usually appear within minutes of the impact of the stressful stimulus or event, and disappear within 2–3 days (often within hours). Partial or complete amnesia for the episode may be present.

There must be an immediate and clear temporal connection between the impact of an exceptional stressor and the onset of symptoms; onset is usually within a few minutes, if not immediate. In addition, the symptoms show a mixed and usually changing picture; in addition to the initial state of "daze", depression, anxiety, anger, despair, overactivity, and withdrawal may all be seen, but no one type of symptom predominates for long; resolve rapidly (within a few hours at the most) in those cases where removal from the stressful environment is possible; in cases where the stress continues or cannot by its nature be reversed, the symptoms usually begin to diminish after 24–48 hours and are usually minimal after about 3 days.

After being attacked and stabbed, empress Elisabeth of Bavaria boarded a ship, unaware of the severity of her condition as consequence of an acute stress reaction. Bleeding to death from a puncture wound to the heart, Elisabeth's last words were, "What happened to me?"

  14. The closest thing I can remember to this on here was the story about the woman on a motorcycle getting flipped by a trip wire.

  15. thanks for the informative post,i understand a little more about it now.Even though i had a rather weak way of mentioning it by calling it special case and shutting herself off.
Actually it does seem logical now.
But man that poor woman, she was unlucky and so the victim of it.

  18. Well, I can relate to being completely shocked from hitting a person. After I hit a guy on a bike awhile ago, I was shaking for a bit. Unfortunately, my stupid lazy American ass has no idea how far 7km is, nor do I care to find out =O

4.34 miles. Really not that far. Could be a 5-10 minute drive.
