i'm' not quite sure how to interprete the image but some one on moe.imouto provided the names and nationalities over there but not were he/she got the information. there definatley a different cut from the originals but still retain there witchi'ness. so far Tomoko (third from teh left) poses the most kawaii factor for me

if this is the new design they would probably be reworked for the seires. francesca didn't look as young as she did in the anime in some of the early art.

I don't care if they Gainax it. Just make an effort this time to put forth and actual story and whatnot.
It's annoying that they put forth an actual possible decent story and neglected it. But no, I don't think they should tone it down on the ecchi. They can do but though, and fill it with plenty of ecchi without making it a slice of life.
