Korean vs Chinese won't happen because China will absorb North Korea after North Korea breaks apart; Then South Korea will follow, probably with army marching fun.

I am a 100% Harbin man myself, but I do not really like my city much for the reason that the incompetent government sucks. So I just
said hate the government, the policy, don't hate the people
I support Anarchism. But you know what, anarchism won't come to be a reality until the sociel moral meliorates

I am an American who married a woman from Harbin. I found Harbin to be a great city with all the diverse architecture. People in that city are too busy trying to stay warm or find a job to be worried about the politics and government of the city. Last time I was there was during Chinese New Year (Feb) for my wedding and we all had a lot of fun playing on the SongHua river that was frozen over so much that they were driving big trucks over it as an alternative to going over the regular bridges.
I also had a lot of fun being mistaken for a Russian. Another good thing is that out of all of China, Harbin has the best tasting beer. Their baijou (white liquor) is really good. The best baijou we got was in a farming village about 100km north from the city. It would knock you on your butt and had a really good taste.

The point here is that not everyone hates China. But everyone like controversy and conflict. It's something in human nature.

China has an identity problem. They say they are communist, but are happy to be capitalist in reality. Bribery is rampant. Goods and services are cheap in China but that is only because the RMB is fixed and not tied to international markets like the Dollar or the Euro. Once the RMB is freed, you will see a big change in the price of things that more accurately reflects what the world pays for things. This is going to be a seachange for the whole country and I think that chaos will ensue following such a change.

Apart from these things, the cultural history of the Chinese is truly impressive. It is such a shame that so much was lost during the cultural revolution. For this reason alone do I criticize Mao. He was quite instrumental at uniting China, but to destroy the culture was a crime against all Chinese past, present and future. I weep for this tragedy as so much was lost in such a short time.

Anyway I thought you would like to know that there are people out there who do understand China.

  8. Totally get what you're saying about Mao. I just don't get it!This dipshit burned books, killed teachers and stole people's possessions all in the name of the greater good and for the government.

I can take that he's an asshole, it's just that people STILL worship him. It's nowhere near as bad as the cult of Kim Jong Il but it's just perplexing.

    Stalin style propaganda brainwashing much?

Here's something not many people understand. Mao himself didn't burn a single book, kill a teacher or do any of those things associated with the cultural revolution, just like Hitler himself didn't kill a single Jew. Today, we generally blame Hitler and a small group of Germans for the holocaust. This is generally permissible because it is well documented that the Holocaust and other Nazi atrocities was organized and ordered in a very top down fashion, meaning the bulk of the German populace was only guilty of indifference. This is not the case with the Cultural Revolution. The damage and scope of of the Cultural Revolution was due to the mass movement whipped up by Mao in which nearly every surviving Chinese from that era participated in.The persecutions were fierce and brutal because the persecutors were many and ran with an ever amplifying mob mentality. Mao, in effect unleashed the hate in their hearts which echoed back and forth between his dictums and the mobs enthusiastic response, each time more potent than the last.
When it was all over, there was scarce a man who could say that he did not join in on the madness. After that era, a convenient scapegoat was found in the Gang of Four and the various factions in the CCP rearranged itself around formerly discredited leaders.
The question remained of how China had gone and destroyed itself in such a manner no invader had ever managed. Many refugees from the era tell of the loudspeakers, the big banners and the little red books to a sympathetic western audience who patronizingly call it brainwashing instead of facing up to the more terrible truth. The truth being, that there is great evil lurking in the hearts of all men. The petty jealousies, prejudices and grievances in their hearts was fertile soil for Maos words of hate. Everyone who participated in the movement was as guilty as the man who started it and so it was a huge dilemma of what to say of the whole event.
One way was to demonise Mao and his supporters within the party and this is largely the view in the west. Mao was however still the founder of the nation and to blame him, the vast majority of Chinese would be condemning themselves.
The second option was of course the traditional asian method of saving face by denying or downplaying the event to "a small mistake". This of course became the official line and one many were prepared to accept so they could put their sins behind them.
What you see todays Chinese and their refusal to vilify Mao isn't so much "brainwashing" but the legacy of a generations collective denial passed down to the present. The Communists-in-name-only of today have overturned Maos every policy and buried every one of his ideas. Though they continue to desecrate his vision of China, they still must pay lip service to the dead dictator, lest they have to account for their part in the madness.

If you see movie like The Last Emperor, it is depicted rather very well.

I'm a Chinese too, so I can understand your feeling. But I don't think China (mainland specified) is a good place you want to live one more life time, don't you think?

However, the only problem is, no matter how bad China is, it's our own matter, not the foreigners'business.

We have the responsibility to rethink what we've done wrong, and we have the right to blame what China is bad, while the foreigners who didn't suffer from the true dark side of China have no strength in their words.

China is a great land, and Chinese people are intelligent, WITHOUT CCP, so if you give me another chance to choose where my life starts, I won't choose China, instead, I'll choose somewhere in Europe maybe, but still, I love China.

If China bothers you, blame CCP.

If you study the history more, you can find the true reason why those happened. Do you think Mao wanted all those happened?
Not everyone has Mao's sight, he saw what others couldn't see; for a leader, it's a good thing when it's not too much; but he really saw much too far, or you can say, kind of not realistic. Few people were ready to accept what Mao had seen at that time, not even now; so you can say he's not a good president after all. Do you know why people still worship him? Because without him, your parents could have died during the invading or the civil war, which makes you sitting in front of your computer and downloading adult films impossible.

  20. Hetalia!

No seriously, I don't get why these guys are so crazy about this. Do you get money for being patriotic? Do you become smarter by lecturing us on this stuff?

    And hypocrite much?

I won't choose China, instead, I'll choose somewhere in Europe maybe, but still, I love China.

That's like saying "Let's break up, I wish I'd never met you. But I still love you.”

I would totally choose China if I believed in re-incarnation. Maybe Japan over China because it's an otaku dream (I'd be a real japanese schoolgirl! =D) but China's pretty awesome.

That is, if you're not some starving college student, a farmer or a domestic worker.
