Both males and females can be trained to be more responsive to sight or to audio stimulation. The current trend is for both women and men to be more visual oriented, though a smallish gap may persist.

I think a little girl wants to know why haruhi is so popular. Please lucky channel, enlighten us with your words of wisdom.

I don't mind trying out Haruhi as well.

Haruhi takes the age old philosophy 101 questions of what if we don't truly exist, and gives god the appearance of a beautiful young girl. In a philosophy class you might hear the teacher or a student say, maybe what we see, feel, and maybe our memories don't truly exist. Maybe we are trapped like in the Matrix movie, or just the figments of a guy named Bob's dream. Well this Bob is now Haruhi in the anime world. The reason this question is often asked in a philosophy 101 class is because it broadens the mind into thinking anything is possible, it is not too difficult to understand, and it is a very fun and interesting concept to discuss with new philosophy students. This same method alone helps the popularity of Haruhi.

Giving "god" (in this case I'll go ahead and use the she is God theory) the avatar of a beautiful young girl that is interested in a normal human that the viewing audience can relate too is brilliant. Power is sexy, and Haruhi is not only a sexy character, but she is also eccentric (which deviants who like anime really enjoy "this is also why Yuki tends to be the most popular"). She makes life interesting and brings in other interesting "moe" characters along with her. "Koizumi is for the female fans" Especially with Kyon ha.

The anime combines the traditional school life anime with a proper amount of action and even subtle romance hint. The romance and action are usually subtle and causes the audience to want it more. We keep watching more and more, and the randomness of what can possibly happen next keeps us begging for the next episode.

Haruhi is not only decently original in design it also does things never done before. Playing their episodes out of order was brilliant. Kyoani pushed the series onto the Otaku world. Otaku's became more and more interested because of the stunt more so then the anime, and once they all gathered and watched the anime together, referencing it became easy. The Otaku community has a habit of taking something and making it much more fun. Since the entire Otaku community kept shooting out new pictures, videos, etc on Haruhi it became a staple in anime. I like Disgaea, but not many of my friends have played or watched it so I can't talk about it with everyone. Now every one of my friends have watched Haruhi because the stunt made it so big that we can talk about it amongst each other easily making the series more fun with friendly interaction as well.

Giving the ending theme of the anime a para para dance that is both fun and easy to learn was icing on the cake. The dance became very viral and appeared everywhere. This made it a must do event at conventions, and pushed the anime even farther.

With the combination of the interestingly different storyline, and the stunts that pushed it so broadly into the otaku world it made Haruhi extremely popular and fun for anime fans all around the world.

The thing is, I was never trained to be an atypical male, and my sister is the way she is because she was born that way.

Guys are hardly in control of how they were made any more than girls don't get to decide to just not be who they are.

Now of course there are always exceptions. One of the most notable being homosexuals.

Very Well I'll take a crack at it:

    1. As glascle said, It is the definition of manliness. (but why you ask?) You can find symbols of manliness all throughout the series, but lets look at the main weapons of choice, the drill. The drill itself is a phallic symbol (penis like) in the ultimate form. Many men are attracted to the phallic imagery subconsciously all the time (the sword or the gun for example). Even Samuri X (Kenshin) talkes about the man is a sword and the woman is his sheath (sexual imagery). The drill is a motorized mega piece of phallic imagery that can fill some impressive psychological theories.

    2. The character Kamina is a Hercules of the anime world. The story of Hercules stood the test of time for a reason and Kamina is a model of that. He is not the smartest being, but he is strong in spirit and body. Always pushing ahead and never surrendering (much like the Spartans in the movie 300). But this manly person isn't the main character. He is charismatic and all the people follow him and look up to him at first, but he is looking up to a kid that no one gives to much thought about. He knows from the beginning Simon's potential, and he knows that all the kid needs is the confidence to use his power to save them all.

With times when Simon tells Kamina that he doesn't believe that he is strong enough to do something, and that he doesn't have the confidence in himself like Kamina has in him. Kamina responds because Simon has full confidence in Kamina, just not any in himself, saying "Then Don't believe in yourself. Believe in the me that believes in you!" Kamina knows that even though he is charismatic, the people needed Simon to lead in order to save them all, and he was ready for anything to make that happen.

    3. The series continues with many epic battles, and such with Simon's growth into a man. But what also draws people into the series is the epic over the top action and other crazy sequences. It's like fusing G-Gundum and FLCL. Scenes where Simon pilots and controls a giant robot to sit down and control an even bigger robot, are funny, epic, and give you the sense of "omg did they just do that". The over the top action and humor makes this manly series even more popular, and the series also doesn't skip out on the fanservice, with the big breasted Yoko and the mary sue Nia.

just out of curiosity why do you call nia a mary sue

  15. Thank you very much for the Nagisa ok! ^_^ Makes me pretty happy.

Haha my vice president loves Ergo Proxy to death. (I'll take this opportunity to input my convention. I am the Founder/President/Conchair of Kamicon at the University of Alabama, we started last year with 500 attendees. This year we will have Vic and Little Kuriboh >.>) meh.... Kamicon.net

I called Nia a Mary Sue character because she is a perfect character or an authors pet. She has no serious flaws (minus the whole anti-spiral thing that had to do with the plot, but that doesn't effect the character of Nia) Her primary function is wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors and readers. She is almost the damsel in distress figure of Gurren Lagann, and is an all around loving/good character that all the other characters love and enjoy. (this is the definition of a Mary Sue character) I don't think Mary Sue characters are bad, but it is my opinion that Nia fits the definition perfectly.

    So...you fuck your sister?

You misunderstand the meaning intended through the word 'train'. Number one mistake of trained individuals is to imagine that they haven't been trained.

Most porn isn't very cute looking. It's layout, and even content tends to be on the "gritty" side. Especially the non-Japanese porn industry.

Also, if you'll look at advertising, most cute things, such as Hello Kitty, My Little Pony and Rainbow Brite, tend to be marketed more towards girls. While more gritty things, such as G.I. Joe, X-Men, and Batman tend to be advertised toward guys/boys.

Childrens toys, adult fashion, it's all geared toward cute being a girly thing and gritty being a guyish thing. Even walk into a clothing store that sells both men's and women's clothing and you'll notice that women's clothing contains more pastels, and cute figures when images are present.

Well that is defiantly a good reason to put it and I guess i would agree if my definition of Mary sue was the same. My definition of Mary sue is a character that is built with no flaws and is better at everything for no good reason and eventually declares its self the main character because its better than all the other party members. I have had so many bad experiences with role play because some onion the party made a Mary sue.
