  1. Really, I suggest that both of you stop this argument or else I'll be forced to mute you guys myself.
Seriously, people don't listen to moderators these days.

  2. It's cause you're such a nice fellow Obsidian :D
Any plans for this game being brought to the US although that's probably unlikely
Fooly don't be hating on people who like FPS, people have different tastes you know :3

  3. Yeah. =/ I'm too nice.

So, as for Fiona and FoolyDooly, I'm going to give you a warning for the acts of indecency by arguing for 3 straight pages. Oh, and for ignoring my earlier warning.
Again, if I see another argument from you two then I'll ban both of you for one day.
I'm saying this not because I want you guys to stop (no, the argument is interesting, really. :D) but it's because it's already keeping the topic off-track.

I didn't even know you were one. Most forums have some indication of member status. Perhaps you should implement something of the sort. Also you might as well move this to Manga since this isn't about video games and manga is the closest thing to this genre or general.

  5. Sure. To stop your raging argument, I will. ;D
Yeah. Arte doesn't want to reveal the whole moderator team so yeah, no status for the moderators and such. I don't think he'll like it. But I don't know either. I'll talk to him about it.

Nope, and it probably has a snowball's chance in hell of being officially ported. Thankfully PSPs being region free means you can simply import a copy at a reasonable price (about $10-15 more than Japanese MSRP, even with shipping considered), but without a decent working knowledge of moonspeak you're SOL.

  7. Sakura Wars will be coming next year and I believe that has a dating sim portion to it.

Posted 6 years ago # Quote
  8. Well, yeah. Sakura Taisen isn't a visual novel. It's a regular tactical/strategy RPG spiced up with visual novel/dating sim elements.

And it was about time. I wonder what took them so long.

    I think I lol'd.
That series was like, what? 6 years ago or so?
Funny how they're going to revive it with a visual novel. But I hope that it's good since I honestly liked the series.

  10. Japan had to grow the market and develop a fanbase of bed-wetting, agoraphobic, basement dwelling, self-hating Japanophiles who lack enough of a life to complete these games. In other words something akin to what they have in their domestic market. That takes time, patience, and dedication. Now is the time they can enjoy the fruits of their labor and tear into the fattened sow they have been tending to so carefully and diligently.

The first game in the series was on the Sega Saturn. Was the Sega Saturn 6 years ago?

Also the game isn't going to be a VN. We are getting this one, Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love

Eh, really? Actually, I have little idea with Sega and obviously, I haven't held a Sega yet.
Well, I was talking about the animated series. Sorry I didn't put that out in detail.

Hm. Looks good. I'll be sure to get it.

I don't fucking get you. Playing a visual novel is essentially akin to reading a light novel. Just why exactly you think that would be a waste of time more than, let's say, reading a manga is beyond me. For your information, I do read regular books. The narrative excellence in some visual novels is worthy of world literature status. When I want interactive entertainment, I'm starting up a computer/video game (though I've been doing this increasingly less for the past 2 years). If I want to experience a good story and enjoyable character interaction, I'm watching anime or read a book or a manga, or I play a visual novel. Criticizing someone for completing a visual novel makes as much sense as criticizing someone for sitting through all 109 episodes of Legend of the Galactic Heroes or reading all 6 volumes of Lord of the Rings. You can enjoy them a few chapters a time.

Or do you look down on visual novel players/readers because VNs often have the added bonus of porn? Well, so do regular books. I'm currently reading A Clockwork Orange, and as of page ~300, there have already been plenty of graphic depictions of rape...

Is it because you think it's pathetic to "date" virtual girls? If the player actually thinks of it as "dating" (as opposed to simply choosing the girl they'd like the story to progress with) then it probably is. But surely it's not any more pathetic than fapping to 2D porn. And only a subset of VNs are dating sims.

Seriously, I don't have a clue where all this hate is coming from.

Easy. It's not hate, it's trolling.

Consider that this is the same user that after making fun of visual novels and gamers in general, turns around and recommends another title that's basically the same thing.

That comment was not in regards to VN's or dating sims but a srpg series. Don't you look retarded now.

The game is not basically the same thing. I was not making fun of gamers which I am one of. Enjoy sharing in your fellow downie's retardation.

  16. My, isn't insulting people on the internet fun. And no, it was not apparent in any way what your little misguided rant was aimed at. Doesn't matter either way, since it makes even less sense if you were referring to SRPGs. That market was established way back in the mid-90s, hundreds of thousands of people in the west were playing them on the SNES back then already, and Sakura Wars was arguably much better than many of the RPGs imported during it's time. Your troll post was supposed to do many things, but referring to Obsidian's post in a meaningful manner was surely not one of them.

Besides, VN or JRPG, the basic point from my post still stands.

Japanese games hating troll on a forum that mainly deals with Japanese games. Makes sense.

so basically we'll be unable to do anything cause the mods have integrated themselves into our ranks...waiting and watching our every move...

Trolls resort to base insults and expletives because they are simply unable to be civil. This is a fact of the internet.

On the topic, SRPGs were actually around for a very long time since the early 1980s, released on the PC-98 and the MSX. Their most popular incarnation usually have VN elements, as much as critics are vehement on denying this fact. You could even say that most early games (dating sims being the most popular genre) are more on the gaming side, while text adventures (which in a way is what visual novels are) are a mostly western phenomenon.

Actually, now that I think about it, Konami couldn't really have "outdid" themselves like the OP asserted, since they've been in the business of these games since the very beginning, and some of their titles can be rather risqué.

What I am most supportive of is the innovation in taking gaming interactivity above the limits of current standards. As least we could say playing them wouldn't be boring experience.
