I'm a relatively new user on the SanCom Forums. And I'd have to say that ever since I joined, I've been very impressed with them! My thoughts were that the topics were nice and regulated, with the necessary humour and such, without any danger of getting out of hand like the infamous 2channel did (and does?). Now maybe I shouldn't go comparing the SanCom Forums with an imageboard, but my point stands that I haven't personally experienced anything wrong. As far as I can tell, the problem at hand is that there are too many unrelated or cliché uninteresting images being posted in threads and they divert attention from the topic at hand, right? I agree that when I check the threads that have already accumulated over 50 pages are usually quite off-topic, but I think we have to accept that a thread has its life-span and perhaps we should accept that the topic dies after a while and makes place for a bit of silly fun. A lot of images, no matter how cliché or unrelated, just add that little bit of internet humour that I like every now and again.

    2. A tag for image appearance.

Tag not set - the concerned user sees no pics (but links to open them manually?).

I think this will suffice IMO. Lolispam and derailing has always been part of Sancom. :/

I really like the way the forum is right now, the pics (even if sometimes overdone) are a big part of the charm and getting rid of them won't make this place better.

I think a simple suggestion as tags would go a LONG way, and perhaps adding the option of "spoilers" would also help, but getting rid of the random msg quotes is just way too drastic.

Since there are both users who want pics (I'd miss them all, good and bad alike) and those who don't I suggest a combination of several settings.

    1. A tag for image threads.

Tag not set - only op can post pics, users can not.

    2. A tag for image appearance.

Tag not set - the concerned user sees no pics (but links to open them manually?).

    3. A tag for guro images.

When a user posts such a pic he has to set it.

    4. A tag for guro image appearance.

Tag not set - the concerned user sees no guro pics (but links to open them manually?).

The result would be three advantages.

Forum users who are bothered by guro pics or any pics can turn them off, the others can enjoy them.

Ops who want pic free threads can have just that.

The mods don't have to waste time watching the forums all day.

I'd have to agree with Schrobby on this wholeheartedly.

  5. Derailing happens a LOT and I MEAN A LOT Picture spamming happens A LOT. Art shouldnt have to ban people because they wanna be jackasses and picture/derail a topic having no common sense, this is what he has seen with his mods and think something should be put in place. because sancom doesn't attract one type of Animefan ("Retarded with a dash of crazy") Some of us sane people would like to talk about topics and stay on point without the 3-4 pages of derailment and picture spamming. why should rights to derailment and picture spam overtake rights of staying on topic.

  6. Yeah, and that could be done with 4 small tags...

  7. I still think the spoiler tags is the way to go since it gives the reader the freedom to choose whether to look at the pics or not. It doesn't bother anyone and you can put as many pics as you want inside the spoiler tags and even organize them in categories. You write a little heading like: "Lolis" and then just post all the pics of lolis you want inside the spoiler tags and do the same for "guro", "motivational posters" or any other type of images. That way we will know what's inside the spoiler without looking at the pics and we would then decide if we want to take a look inside it or not. It's a win/win situation.
