  1. Myself and several users are concerned about the excessive use of sad, clichéd Photoshopped images in place of coherent replies, and the tendency of some users to wilfully derail discussions with large numbers of images.

The intent of allowing image (and video) posting is to enable users to share visual content, or to include visual content in discussions where appropriate.

With this in mind I would like to solicit opinions on how to reign in such excessive use of images. An idea I had in mind for some time is to restrict image attachments/links to discussions tagged (by the creator or a moderator) "Image Gallery," with some allowances made for people to post images in topics they started or similar. It does seem quite rare for later posters to actually post relevant images which add to the discussion.

Another idea is simply to forbid it and to ban or warn as necessary... this has the disadvantage of placing a burden on moderators to enforce the system, and also has plenty of scope for abuse, honest mistakes and friction. It seems better to build limits into the interface itself, avoiding these issues.

  2. I think a set a rules would do good as a starting point.

  3. Maybe you could add "spoiler tags" that hide the images. That way people can just put their images inside said tags and it will be up to the reader if they want to look (open spoiler) at the image or not. Can we also make the edit option permanent? Sometimes I post something and log out, later on when I log back in I can't edit my post anymore. It gets annoying at times since I might find a spelling mistake or something and can't edit it.

negative.. i find that that will just cause users to post more than once...

i do agree that we should have something like Nosferatu described but, for photos only

something like this would be fine

  6. *pondering*

In all honesty ~ I agree that there is an over-use (abuse) of spamming of images in some threads, that it makes it difficult to even read specific threads, because one has to wait (until) all the images are loaded/shown, before (even) attempting to read it.

I think a standardized ~ *rules* ~ would be a good start, this way it can be gauged to see if anyone abides by them, and the moderators can - "take note" - of the offenders, thus giving them proper and insightful warnings.

I think the rules (as easy as they may seem) also need to be clarified fully and to the point, so that they are fully understood, this way it will avoid any misunderstanding of what the intent is concerning that rule.

I ~ *know* ~ that the SC Family Tree thread has allot of images to it, so I am wondering how and what rule(s) will be made concerning that?

Will it limit the amount of claims, adds, to be rendered towards the Tree? ~ which in turn ~ will limit the amount of images?

    I'm curious...

I think that Nosferatu's ideas is a good one as well... a spoiler (image) tag... could work.

I should say, that I am all for the usage of being able to place/insert Youtube videos as well, as it gives a chance for some creativity...

I do create some videos - *just* - for that purpose, to place them here on SC, and as well as my Rukia - "mood" - avatars.
(At times, an image will convey all that needs to be said (rather than) giving a complete response or tl;dr posting.

  7. I personally LOVE the option to post pics & youtube clips. - I wouldn't say I'm a "Offender" . I post anywhwere betweem 2-6 at a pop. I myself loath the long threads where someone just posts 20 pics of some B&W Dojinshi or Loli-Spam but I understand that's the 'Flavor' of your sites players. Some hate my 3-D women...but most tolerate it and I'm really the only one who does it...but it atleast is "part of my flavor".

Maybe you set it up so that the Thread Creator can decide to allow pics or not from the jump. The Toggle content switch might be a good idea. I personally would miss ALL the pics. It's worth 'wading thru' all the nonsense just to find those Rare Gems. I Love Deth's Rukia 'Mood' Pics- lol.

I find it odd that you just NOW decided maybe the Pic Uploading has gotten out of hand...it's been like this for practically a year (or more). The Forums are fine as they are...it's what were used to. No pics in out 'Profiles' no Pics in the Forums....Next you're gonna tell me "Pics" cause Global Warming and you need to limit them- lol (kidding).

Ultumately it's YOUR site....You'll do what you want anyway. I say let the pics stay but oh well...

  8. <----- Never posted image.
the addition of a option for image gallery tag seems the most reasonable considering what you are aiming to eliminate/restrict.

I agree with gantz there, I'd miss all the enormous amount of pics (nonsense and gems alike) and I'm sure a lot of people would miss it as well. That spoiler button idea sounds good though, I think it would work pretty well.

  10. Why not make a rule stating that pics that have no relevance to the topic at hand will lead to a warning and potential ban. Then as others have said see how many abide by it.

Another option may be to make it a "privilege" i/e something that only users who have not abused the system can use and that for new members must wait about 2-4 weeks before thy can to sorta get a grasp for when and where to post them.

I realize the last one may irk some and depending how you rate the problem users it could result in me not being able to post images or video. i have participated and helped some of the derailment ah hell lets be honest flame wars to flourish. though not intentionally i did help and support one at least for a time.

However maybe also making it so the creator can make it so their topic can be open for anyone to post in even those without "permission" blending most suggestions and adding a new layer to the ban by making both full ban and image/vid ban.

  11. Anything rules based requires constant attention from moderators and assumes goodwill on the part of users, which is rather naive.

Limiting to one image per post does nothing to constrain people from posting image responses. Hiding images might be an option if they were dynamically loaded.

I don't think video posting requires any such modification as it stands.

If people want to post certain images, they are welcome to - but there is a time and a place.

A simple set of rules (mostly just covering extreme stuff we have always removed or banned for) and some guidelines will likely be forthcoming.

  12. There needs to be like some kind of internet motivational poster detector.
So that one can immediately prune all motivational posters from their forum.

  13. Since there are both users who want pics (I'd miss them all, good and bad alike) and those who don't I suggest a combination of several settings.

    1. A tag for image threads.

Tag not set - only op can post pics, users can not.

    2. A tag for image appearance.

Tag not set - the concerned user sees no pics (but links to open them manually?).

    3. A tag for guro images.

When a user posts such a pic he has to set it.

    4. A tag for guro image appearance.

Tag not set - the concerned user sees no guro pics (but links to open them manually?).

The result would be three advantages.

Forum users who are bothered by guro pics or any pics can turn them off, the others can enjoy them.

Ops who want pic free threads can have just that.

The mods don't have to waste time watching the forums all day.

  14. To deal with image threads, I'm thinking we should end all random ones and only allow more focused ones that glorify a specific character, artist, and I guess a subject.
Absolutely no image threads on "loli" or "shimapan". TOO BROAD! If they want to see images they can go to Sankaku channel, type whatever in the search box, and look at them there.

Also, it would be helpful if they started uploading to the channel more often than the forums.

i cant agree with you...although i can see why you dont want any images threads...but some of us like to talk about quality (and the image itself) of some photos/art...also your not force to go to those threads. I dont like traps and avoid going to the trap treads... you can do the same...

also heres a better example of how you can hide images and make it easier to navigate

  17. I'm not against loli or shimapan threads. i'm only asking you not make threads based on such broad things.

hmm... But then again making image threads too narrow, could cause more users to start creating a lot of image threads generating = clutter. -__-

Well, i think there might be a need for the complete extinction of the image thread, since you guys aren't creative enough to post anything else.^^

  18. I have to side with Gantz on this one..
Why is it all of a sudden that there are changes wanting to be made, when SanCom has functioned nicely these past ~10 months? Is it a matter of saving space? (if that's the case then just delete really really old posts, since I got closed out of one when I revived the most ancient :P)

A couple days ago, there were spammers (Kouji and others) trying to get a rise out of us. It was kinda fun as we banded together, rice in hand. *wipes a tear away* My first battle..
And on that day, you already showed us that if an image/vid is offensive or what-not, us Sankakuans will comment our displeasure and it will be taken cared of.
Limiting pictures, is limiting our way of life. How can poor Schrobby add more family members without an image?

Just limit the stupid people (spammers).

  19. I was joking.^^;

But, believe it or not, there were gonna be changes. The forums is in phase one or test phase, this isn't the finished product. And we have always had concerns about the direction the forums are going but we let it go. But you needn't worry, no changes will be made yet.

  20. I think implementing my suggestions will get rid of 95% of the problems without heavy restrictions.

Being able to browse pictureless if so wanted would enable people to browse Sancon in public, so the forums would actually get even better.
