Dakimakura question

  1. I figured this was the best place to ask this question. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a dakimakura.

    http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/bQDYXuPy5ZjYCRbhX4/browse/item/80601/4/153/100

Also I have some concerns about it, first off is the low price. I'm glad it's low but all the other places I've searched for dakimakura are charging $100. It makes me wonder about the quality.

  2. The description is pretty vague. I would see if you can contact the seller and ask them what it is they are selling exactly.

Also, that's a pretty low price, but I saw some ebay vendor selling a bunch of dakimura pillow cases (just the pillow case, not the actual pillow which is sold separately) for 40 USD I think. They also take requests for custom dakimuras (for an extra fee of course), so I'd check them out. Just search dakimuras on ebay.

  3. Wow, thank you for the fast reply. I'll see what I can find out from the seller. It's rightstuf so their products should be official.
I'll check out ebay too. Thanks for the suggestion.

  6. Oh and I forgot to ask another question. The dakimakura sold at conventions, are they the same price as if you buy it online? Just wanted to do some price comparisons

I t really depends on what time your in the convention seller's room. Like in AnimeExpo '08 i got some really nice prices for figures going for 40 USD. My friend got a revoltech saber for $10 when the marked price was $26. I would suggest going to stalls when they have to close soon becasue they are usally in a frenzy so they mess up with money.

Heh, I was thinking of doing that at the New York Anime Festival '08 but I was afraid they'd sell out on the stuff I wanted. That was my first convention, so I was playing it safe. I might try to do that at the Otakon this summer.

  9. It doesn't look to be the same sort of thing you'd see coming out in Japan. The quality may be off, it's not clear if it double sided, and the illustration is obviously not a dakimakura style illustration (their Death Note one also uses a non-dakimakura illustration); also "Great Eastern" is not one of the Japanese companies obviously. My guess would be cheap unauthorised knock off.

Also, eBay dakimakura are obviously not going to be legitimate at that price. A "custom" dakimakura would technically be a copyright violation so that in itself is proof.

  10. I want an official one but the price is a bit too high for me right now. Right now, I'm thinking along the lines of getting something cheap for now, then in the future I'll stockpile dakimakura in my room en masse. I'm still very hesitant about this though. It's driving me insane!

  11. Have you checked on http://www.jlist.com?

  12. Yeah, I checked them. All their prices are around $100 except for the magazine(which looks very appealing). I think I might go the way of getting one from ebay and picking up a pillow at bed bath and beyond.

  13. The genuine ones in Japan almost never go below 7-8,000 yen, hence the high prices elsewhere. Somewhat puzzling, but nobody has ever complained of them being poor quality so I suppose that is something.

  14. I just wanna thank everyone for all their help. I really appreciate you helping me during these difficult times. If anyone still has suggestions, go ahead and post. Again, thanks a bunch to everyone.

  15. Oh and just in case anyone was curious, this is the one I got:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220365521255

It's actually a little more than what I planned to spend but I'm satisfied w/ my purchase.

So who's going to be the first one to post a pic of the gloriously high-quality dakimakura by ero master Tony Taka?
