So...I took a risk and started on RideBack after 3 eps had been subbed. Nice surprise there I found. (Intriguing enough for me, though I can't shake the need to compare it to AIR GEAR...)

Anyway...Does anyone ELSE think MELL needs to stop singing engrish and stick to straight Japanese? I like the RideBack OP's music, but good lord the lyrics hurt my ears...(MELL's OP for Sky Girls TV was bearable, since the engrish was more gibberish sounding there...) Guess I'll buy the Single just for the karaoke version...

And am I the only one that doesn't particularly like Angela's voice? Similar to the above, but Shikabane Hime's OP is all right (at least somewhat listenable), but Angela's voice kinda detracts from it...

Out of all the new shows that started this season/quarter I'm watching, Maria+Holic and MariMite 4th seem to be the only ones whose OP got stuck in my head. (Holic's much more so compared to Mite's). SoraKake's OP is okay, though I get flashbacks of Rozen Maiden listening to it. (It's Ali Project doing that OP, ain't it?)

Continuations from the last season have faired okay: Index's second OP isn't bad...Though not quite as good compared to it's first OP (intro part to the second song seems kinda out of place to me...) First OP is still on my playlist rotation...

And ToraDora's new OP is semi-stuck in the back of my head...Damn Horie Yui (good example of decent/good engrish usage ^_^ ). I dropped the First OP off my playlist though.

No ED's so far have caught my attention as of yet...

Any other faves/surprises/disappointements other there for this season?

Hmm...I think I kinda like the S1 OP a bit more as just a song (though I've yet to figure out why they keep remixing that song for each CLANNAD iteration).

Though I admit the OP for CLANNAD ~AS~ seems to fit the series a bit more. If you like that, have you heard 小さな手のひら (Chiisana Tenohira)? It's the ~AS~ Arc ED for the original game.

Ditto. Has to be the best OP I've ever heard. And I've heard many many OP's. Idk, I just absolutely love Lia's voice, and in combination to the excellent music that Maeda Jun writes, it's like just epic win.

The S1 OP was the original OP for the game, wasn't it?...　メグメグ... except for the redid it so instead of the semi-techno style of the original, you have a more mellow version with acoustics and such.

But yah, I love the melody to 小さな手のひら... it's soooooo good. It would've been sooooo kick-ass if they had it for the ED for the whole second season. I am not overly fond of the ED they have currently... at least they stick in the tune for 小さな手のひら in the first season ED though. Hehehe, 団子大家族 was pretty good. Though still can't compare with 小さな手のひら itself.

The ED for the ~AS~ anime does seem quite out of place...Especially as of late. This series is one of the ones you'd expect an ED song change as the mood of the series changes. The ED was okay for the first couple eps. (It fit the First ep well enough.)

But for the Nagisa Arc of ~AS~, they should've gone with some else. Considering the content, the current ED is WAY too perky...^_^; It's a cute song...Just doesn't seem to fit the context it's used in.

BTW, the S1 OP is the orig OP for the game...Though the version used in the Anime is like a remix of a remix. The game OST featured two versions of Mag Mell. The S1 Anime version is a more acoustic version of the remix from the OST.

I also believe there was a remix of Mag Mell for the Movie version. Can't recall it off-hand. I never got my hands on that single. Haven't seen it to buy it yet...

団子大家族 was cute...It got stuck in my head for a while back then, partly because Nagisa kept singing it in the series...

I also enjoyed the op for rideback and found that series surprsingly good. I like the ed to a certain point though =/.

Maria Holic's ed is really nice and i like the techno beat to it.

Chrome Shelled Regios' op is addicting and the op single has 4 different versions to the song.

Both ed and op for tetsuwan birdy decode 2 is good.

Regios...I've watched it...While the show itself has my attention, I don't particular care for the music...Though the OP is the victim of odd Engrish usage, so it hasn't grown on me...at least not yet...(The BGM in the show itself can hurt my ears...Sounds like cheap videogame music at points...)

I'm starting to take a liking to White Album's OP, but that's partially because I'm a Mizuki Nana fan ^_~

I'd definitely agree that Index's 1st OP was a better song, but I do like the 2nd also. Toradora's 2nd OP is also quite pleasing to me, but I've been a pretty big fan of Yui Horie for years, which means I'm accustomed to her voice.

I think the ED was for Ushio. And also, both Chiisana te no hira and Dango Daikazoku was based upon Nagisa's image song. But I must say, Toki wo Kizamu Uta made me cry especially after ep 18. It just fits the anime.

Last year was still better tho, as we had Diamond Crevasse, and it's hard to see any song beat that

I liked Virgin's High also...I just wish at times that MELL would stop using so much Engrish. Otherwise, the music for her songs are pretty good.

There's something about Angela's voice that doesn't agree with me for some reason...But otherwise, again, I like the music for the Shikabane OP.

I like the 2nd Index OP, but there's a segment of the instrumental in it that seems out of place to me. But overall, I like it.

I used to be a big fan of Horie Yui until I more or less switched over to Mizuki Nana (thanks to the Nanoha series). I'm quite accustomed to Horie's voice also (she's become quite easily identifiable). I'm guessing I'm getting tired of her playing the same type of role for the past few years in the stuff I've been watching. (The energetic female.) The woman is like the new Hayashibara Megumi: she's freakin' everywhere.

Lia's one of the better I've Sound singers to come out of that project. She's at the top of my list for that set of singers. KOTOKO would be next. Relative newcomer Kawada Mami is third (for her Index work), though I think I'd bump her up to second if she releases more stuff for me to sample. MELL's last for her excessive use of horrid Engrish.

Indeed last year is going to be something to beat, with MF releasing so many good songs alone. We still got 3 more seasons of anime to go this year (Spring/Summer/Fall...Or Haru/Natsu/Aki...) Maybe we'll get treated again ^_~

Hmm...Maybe I should start putting up the songs mentioned here on the radio station I'm experimenting with.

Yah, I totally agree with your opinion on I've singers... I just love the voice of Lia (she's first for me), and of course, there's KOTOKO and Kawada Mami. They are like just up there. Though MELL I'm not very fond of... she could do better.

And as for Angela, I think the reason is just that she sounds too much like a guy = ="... she would've made an excellent seiyuu for a guy character though. Like one of them shounen characters.

They should've sooo made 小さな手のひら the ED for the sadder episodes though... like the one which Nagisa dies... I mean, like at the end of the episode, Nagisa passes away, and Tomoya is like totally out of it and traumatized, and like the image of Nagisa flashes through his mind... and then the mood is just all like... yah. And then suddenly, you hear the happy music come on. No, that totally does not fit. Shattered the mood and all. Would've been so kick-ass if at that moment, 小さな手のひら started to play.

If MELL would quit with the attempt at english, I wouldn't mind as much...She tries too often there, and she has WAY too heavy of an accent to pull it off. Someone like Sakamoto Maaya does a MUCH better job at english-lyric singing. But still...to the core JPN audience, I guess it's fine for them. For native english speakers, it can be aggravating.

Angela...as a guy? I never thought of it that way...Sorta makes sense if I think hard about it...I kept thinking it was more in how she sings or her pitch...She sounds a bit more...Nasal(?) compared to other artist in the same style of songs I've heard. I can't quite pinpoint it...

But yeah, you're right...She might play a male role pretty well, judging from her singing voice (as heard from the Shikabane Hime OP).

As for the CLANNAD debate: THAT is EXACTLY how I felt. Offing a main char like that and playing Torch right after is just...weird...小さな手のひら would've fit so much better. (I was actually HOPING they had swapped out EDs by then, or at least for THAT ep...) Though they probably could've led into it...小さな手のひら has a fairly long intro. But it woulda been much more fitting.

Well Chiisana tenohira was a special song for BOTH Nagisa and Ushio in the after arc of the novel.
I feel that using Nagisa (the song) would have made a better impact as it does not need any lyrics

Lol, actually, Nagisa (the song) WAS played... like the moment that Nagisa's lifeless hand dropped from Tomoya's hands. And it continued to play until the end of the episode. And then, it cut to TORCH. It was just so = ="... yah. I think vocals are kinda required in an ED though... I mean, it would sound so weird w/o them. And plus, Lia's lonely voice singing in 小さな手のひら is not your normal kinda happy or cheerful vocals. It's very... idk... sentimental?
