Deviant Entertainment

  1. This Rapelay controversy jolted my interest in looking up more info about deviant entertainment. I have an essay due in month that's coincidentally related to this, so this is relevant to my interests.

There are a lot of things playing into this, and is probably a much more complex topic than you would think... You could look at the Rapelay controversy from a number of view points: cultural relativism, the effect of the media on policy decisions, the role of the government in regulating entertainment, censorship, gender issues, morality of "fringe" entertainment, psychological effects of entertainment... and maybe more I can't think of.

I guess I'd just like to make the case about whether or not Rapelay (and entertainment related to it) is some sort of "problem" and to get a broader sense of how common this kind of entertainment is. And by common, I mean how long has this kind of stuff been around, and some examples of cultures that have it, and what their perception is.

It's hard to narrow the focus since things like the loli controversy can encompass a lot of things.

    Any ideas?
