For me the fiction is not dumbed down for the casual mundane viewer like 90% of live action stuff is.
The other I like animation and more things can be done with it than normal live action.

Are you sure it was Kanokon rather then say another ecchi anime such as oh i don't know... Ai Yori Aoshi?

Ai Yori Aoshi wasn't that ecchi... it was more plot oriented.
Ecchi would be closer along the lines of like... idk, Zero no Tsukaima or like... Inukami.
Pertaining to hentai though, I think the quality just cannot compared. Anime is just so much more well done.

Wouldn't you think though... hentai is like just the sex elements. No plots at all. The characters are so shallow you can basically read their minds (guys = "I must screw the girls"; girls = "I want to be screwed by the guys/Holy crap, I'm gonna get raped"). The plot and stuff is just too different to compare... so the only thing you can focus on is the animation quality. And voice acting.

Bullsht...that only works for hentai because there is no story/dailog worth remembering....
For anime you know the story/character focused stuff you look at style of fiction and characters, dialog and how much it annoys you.Redundancy and cliches don't really matter everything is cliche of something as everything has been done before the point of it all is to absorb and enjoy the various styles in how they portray themselves....
If you want to be a mindless sheep do only pay attention to visusal qaulity and never NEVER comment on story,character or dailog....

/rantEhhhhh, I was only referring to how hentai doesn't have any plot to focus on... real anime is different, of course. That's why I said that since for anime, plot is so important, and for hentai, there is no substantial plot, you cannot compare the two when you talk about plot. That's why you can only compare animation quality when you compare the two. And since normal anime receives so much more attention and more money/effort is put into making it, in most cases, anime >>> hentai.
Normal anime is all for the story/plot, I agree. Though visuals/voice acting/music still play a part, the story is worth like 75% of the final product while the rest is only 25%. If you focus too less on the story, all you get is something like... idk... Negima!? (2nd season)?... not enough story/character development. While if you focus too much on the plot, then you'll end up with poor animation that's sometimes kinda painful to the eye... like Noein or something.
But yah, of course, there's always the cliche elements. Everything is cliche. It's always about a guy falling in love with a girl, or like a group of friends hanging out together, or like action action action. It's how each anime deviates from that cliche through the plot that gives individualism to each anime. That's what attracts the viewers to them.

This is why I can like Boobienaughts(Dragonaughts),Negima,Viollinist of Hamlin and hate grantz,raphxeon dismiss macros frontier as a trap(I love and hate MF...) and cream over gundom 00 while hating Seed.
That or I am just crazy :P
Charatcer dev is a mix of character and story, dialog a mix of plot and story so they give and take from them, if I like the set ups I can over look glaring issues(like a monotone character how wants to make out with his gundam heehehehe)forced SOL and loli bits in MF not so much...

I am from an Asian country. I read Doreamon and watched bits of Dragonball and Sailormoon growing up...still I never really got into anime until I went to university in LONDON and watched Bleach cos I was bored during revision for exams. One anime led to another and finally here, 5 years later, I am a regular at Sankaku Complex. Not quite the usual scenario, eh?
