CSS Challenge

1. I give up on this, going to make some posts instead:

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/category/games/

The replacement thumbnail engine refuses to format properly, despite apparently having identical formatting to the previous system.The excerpt block is being pushed down by mysterious forces; I even have a test site with the two systems next to each other, and the old one displays ok despite me having compared the two line by line...

Any ideas? As soon as I get a fix I can roll the new engine out across the site.

Mmmh is this what you're after?
btw the last few thumbnails are scaled to 100x100 via the attribute as their own dimensions are 400 something.. seems a bit useless.

EDIT
Think you screwed something up bad btw..
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/wp-content/themes/SankakuComplex32/style.css isn't accessible, gives me a "Content Encoding Error". Thought it was my firebug acting up, but just tried another computer.. first load goes fine, visit the above mentioned stylesheet directly and now the page is screwed up on that PC as well :)
EDIT2
Okay.. only firefox is giving me the content encoding error.. Konqueror and Opera are showing it just fine >.<
EDIT3
/sigh .. Tried validating the stylesheet to my suprise it can find the sheet just fine.. so do a 'hard refresh' in Firefox on the stylesheet and it shows up without any content encoding whine..
Page back to normal as well.

3. The forum software kept mistaking me for a bot...

Anyway, I believe your problem is with the float property being assigned to the div's containing the text excerpts instead of the images. Try changing the line:

#main .side300 a img { margin:0px 5px 0px 0px; border:1px solid #1F1E1B;padding: 1px;}

to

#main .side300 a img { float: left; margin:0px 5px 0px 0px; border:1px solid #1F1E1B;padding: 1px;}

4. Just going to try these.

If anyone has problems loading pages or otherwise, please report any details as there appears to be a lingering issue, and I would like to confirm it is not related to my connection.

5. i just realised all but the recent comments pannel are gone. i thought you might know that already but i figured giving a heads up on what see on my end.

6. I just replaced them.

gr160's suggestion worked perfectly, thank you! Thumbnails are returning.

Last problem is a bit puzzling - now the frames of images with broken links (usually because the thumb is in preparation) display collapsed, rather than as empty frames as they did previously... Any ideas?

CC, we're looking into it, and I have similar problems. Feel free to share any details.

Well something you might not have noticed yet.. or maybe it's Linux related (Guess it's not helping I'm using the beta version of adobe's flash player either)

Anyhow.. the flash movies are showing OVER the pictures.. which isn't all that sexy. I did manage to fix it though, so see the screenshots for what the problem is and the solution.
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> Just before the <embed tag. And a new attribute for the embed object itself
wmode="transparent"
Has the added benefit that when the player didn't start yet it blends in better with the site.

Bleh forum still eats up greater/less then symbols :(

9. A number of people pointed this previously, and I noticed, but it seemed to be a browser limitation...

...your solution isn't actually of any use as the standard Nico invocation is by a Javascript served from their servers:

(script type="text/javascript" src="http://ext.nucovideo.jp/thumb_watch/sm4377741?w=472&h=374&n=1")(/script)

Seems we cannot influence their embed codes directly?

@Geerie
Just trying to be useful, and I love my firebug . No relation other then just being a visitor to sankakucomplex ;)

@Artefact the embeded element gets written into the page by javascript?
Should be possible to fix either way.. worst case fire some script to add the extra's after it has been added via niconico's script.

Well actually that's not really a 'worst case', if javascript already needs to be enable to be able to see the video then there is no accessibility issues caused by fixing it trough javascript as well.

I might spend some time on it tomorrow, hope simply 'saving' the page in firefox allows me to have a version to test.

You might want to pick up the web developer bar bar as well then. Those 2 addons are huge time savers.. and you can pick up a free editor from studio aptana although as a beginner you might want to use something simpler, I started out with topstyle pro .
As for learning, w3schools has an absolutely brilliant tutorial

13. One idea I was toying with (but will likely not have time to look at in depth) was a hybrid of highslide and the various embeds, so users could get at higher resolution videos even when the play doesn't support it...

This should fix things if you throw it in the wordpress plugins directory and activate the plugin.

Feel free to check the sourcecode :)
See the screenshot of how it worked.. though that isn't as a wordpress plugin yet but rather what I tested with, simply did a "File > Save as" in Firefox and build the fix based on that.

PS: lol.. that took me 3 tries to sort the attachments.. first wrong format, then a .png exceeding the max size limit.. third try, a jpeg haha
Edit
Haha not my day.. third try = fail..

1. nico-nico-douga-fix.7z (0.9 KB) error: failed
2. nico-nico-douga-fix.rar (1 KB) error: failed
3. nico-nico-douga-fix.tar.bz2 (1 KB) error: failed
4. nico-nico-douga-fix.tar.gz (0.9 KB) error: failed
5. nico-nico-douga-fix.zip (1.3 KB) error: failed

EDIT2
Motherf...
Renaming the file to .jpeg didn't trick the forum software either..
Well try this dodgy file sharing service then: http://www.wikifortio.com/765918/nico-nico-douga-fix.7z
Or my IP address /wordpress/wp-content/plugins/nico-nico-douga-fix.7z

You might want to test a page that has more then one niconico vid on it as well btw.. didn't test that myself and I think it might only work for the first one.. depending on if the param name attribute needs to be unique or not.
