*opens coffin*
at last, some fellow enthusiasts...
my only advice (since I am an amateur drawer who has at least 1% or less knowledge when it comes to art): draw, draw, and draw!
and as the previous posters said, enjoy while drawing and never be afraid of how bad your current drawing skill is, we arguably have unlimited time to improve, so take your time but never forget to practice..
just follow your dreams!

Look at other artists work and look at their style and compare it to your own and others' ect... I think that helps
Not that I'm an expert by any means

Drawing's my hobby, but I'm not spectacular at it. I haven't been able to take art classes so far, but I wish I could because that helps a lot with technique. Other than that, it's good to look at a lot of different styles and play around with lots of different mediums. Just have fun with it :D

"Draw from life and learn how to draw CORRECTLY before you end up with an "IT'S MY STYLE" excuse for underdeveloped skills.
Also, don't go directly to dark tones when you do modeling ("SHADING") start from the lightest shadows (Ones you can barely see) and build up from that. You'll find that you'll end up with a better image like so.
Don't let your eyes fool you on angles, always hold out a pencil at arms length, completely perpendicular to your body and measure/compare an angle before you go in and sketch a line.
Don't be afraid of criticism no matter how bad or destructive it is. Even if someone tries to troll you by over-critiquing your work, odds are there's at least some bit of truth to it and you would learn leaps and bounds from it if you take it into consideration.
When drawing the human body/anatomy start by studying skeletal structure, then muscular structure, and then how the skin conforms to fit both. Live models help.
NO BODY is going to hire you because you have a "brilliant idea" about something or other. You MUST show that you have technical ability (In this case the aforementioned CORRECT DRAWING SKILLS) before they'll take you into consideration. Case-in-point, Pixar will not hire a person who can't draw things from life accurately.
On a final note... Drawing is a SKILL, not a talent. And as with all skills, practice makes perfect. And as with all kinds of practice, doing it incorrectly for a month will deteriorate your skills more than if you put off practicing for years on end."

I did art as one of my majors, I focused on photography and drawing.I am an okay drawer, but i only like drawing ppl just seems more interesting. one example is my avatar i drew that. No real tips, just practice, and get a good eraser.
Currently i have only been drawing tattoo designs....which is more hardcore cause its something permanent and all. I have one covering my back (its not finished yet i go for another session in oct, but i drew the entire picture that is on my back, and the tattoo artist is basically just stenciling it in, same goes for the tattoo on my upper outer thigh.)
take you time at it, i don't find it easy
Many moons ago, I did the VERY same.... Art Major here...
I then added Art History as well...
But since 1989, I have not drawn anything... (except here and there) when the moment catches me, and currently (been) working on a project that is getting ever so slowly closer towards completion.
Its slow because... I want it perfect ... even my sketches... that when ideas run through my mind, they collectively are saved, then implemented - however - because of my OCD, I MUST have it - INSANELY RIGHT - before I can release it for public viewing.
Crazy I know... but, I think some can relate to what I am saying...
Thats just one of the funny factors behind any artist, they worry intently in detail, and are VERY critical of themselves and their work.
I should explain~
Currently where I reside, I have no (actual) furniture, its a cabin out in the desert plains of West Texas with very basic needs.
I have no actual drawing table, chair, desk or anything..so this places a MAJOR damper on my creativity, and not only that, a strain on my back.
Just imagine the set up and me in a wheelchair... ya, and you get a small inkling of what I deal with.
So, (when) I get these ideas, I attend to them - (but then) - because of no furniture to do anything comfortably, I get discouraged...
So ~ I place them aside for the time being, and get back to them when I get an idea flowing once more. This is why I soo slow in submitting anything... ~ however, there is a light at the end of the tunnel..
I know that in 2010, I WILL BE able to finally get - (not one) - BUT TWO drawing/drafting tables with the works! (including lights) YEAHHH!!
So, I am looking forward to that.
But, that doesn't mean that what I am working on (currently) will be submitted then.. NO ... I am working slowly on it, and I am hoping that the end result will be mind-blowing for all who have been waiting for it exposure.
Have faith in me...

Deth,
i understand exactly what you mean with not wanting to release it to the public until its perfect.............but honestly some of the best things i have done are when i put a time limit on how long i could work on it......(naturally not for the tattoo designs, but for other things yes)
try it some time.you could spend months on one thing, and the way i am......technically cause of my high standards.....the things i do are never good enough to be released for public viewing no matter what.....I am a harsh judge of my some........back when i was hardcore with the art scene and trying to make money off of it, everytime i sold a piece of art in my mind it was like "that could have been so much better these people have no clue what they are buying".........like i said i am harsh

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/index.php (ZBrush Forum, You will find there for example nice turnable galleries, good for anatomical references)
http://forums.cgsociety.org/index.php (biggest ever international CG community)
http://www.tsofa.com/forum.php (Forum for pencil drawing techniques)I know few more forums related to advanced 3D modeling and rendering, if you are interested let me know.
As for tips:
1. BUY A TABLET if You don't have one since it's essential for game art design & media arts.
2. Download Photoshop Top Secrets DVD tutorials.
3. In a free time when You are out of PC draw on paper whatever comes to Your mind. And DRAW DRAW DRAW.
4. Don't stop on drawing only nude human poses (especially females, why? I know it's most fun, but this way You won't really learn muscles anatomy or how to draw clothes). So try to draw also some environments, vehicles or creatures.Whoaa I talked a lot :D

I draw quite often, especially since I got my hands on SAI. It's a great tool for drawing with a tablet.
For anime-style I usually submit my work into pixiv and keep my photography on DA. I find its easier to cater to certain fandoms that way. Lately its been Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Macross Frontier and Gunbuster.
and an occasional loli, shut upPosted 6 years ago # -
i started to draw from 1 year ago(when i bought an tablet).
and i think the best thing is to accept other people critics.
of course i only draw hentai/Loli. (loli coz is more simple than old gals ^^).Posted 6 years ago # -
I seem to find sketches and doodles more interesting than the final artwork. I'm weird like that =D sorry for the crappy pic I don't have a scanner
