Sankaku Channel = Image Heaven?

this last month i've been away for awhile, basically i've been reading just the main news and leave, but before i would take a look at almost everything, including the channel...

that said i would normally (daily) go check out whats new in the channel, by simply looking at the page number and browsing the most recent ones for something of my interest...

anyway, last time i went there, there were around 1600 pages, to my surprise yesterday when i decided to start checking out the channel again i face a number over 7000 pages, today it's already over 8000 pages, i can only guess tomorrow it's going to be

OVER 9000!!!

while i was trying to make a joke here i was also being serious, a see a ton of images with no tags and since the image count is so damn huge you can't effectively search for something or simply browse through them, basically what i'm trying to say is that the channel is losing it's purpose, it looks like people post images for no reason like a dumpster for their huge collection (not trying to offend anyone), i can't keep up to it now and i don't see any solution for it, not like there is a problem with having more images, but while there are good images there are a ton not so good, and mostly not tagged...

your thoughts?

I've noticed in the past that some images have incorrect tags as well... I'm at a loss for a quick fix as well, since the idea of anyone having to comb through and fix each and every image while new ones are still flooding in sounds really unappealing.

Yahhhhhh, I noticed that too. There is a huge amount of images being posted, but then they are either categorized in the wrong section (like a picture of Neimu smiling is marked as "explicit") or they aren't tagged properly/at all. I know the community should help with that, but I don't think anybody in their right mind would sit down and sift through like thousands of images, tagging each one of them...

I mean, it's nice getting all the pictures on the channel, but I think it'll be a lot nicer if the person putting them onto the channel takes a few extra seconds and tag the image & make sure that it is categorized correctly.

Yes, I also see a flow of data coming in faster than you can say 'download'. The chan board of sankaku complex have been flooded by wrongly tags or miss place images.

Will it hurt to tag those images if you want to share it online? It's also a pain in the ass for the admin to fix it as quickly as possible.

The tag situation will improve as more successive uploads add additional tags to the images already uploaded. This will ensure the images get the key tags they need. Currently only the first phase is in operation.

And the very high tempo uploads obviously won't continue indefinitely, just until there are a few hundred thousand more.

Finally, the Channel is not really intended as an image board in the traditional sense, rather as a database, so trying to keep up with additions isn't really the intended use. I'm planning to make some changes to the default views to reduce the perception that the images are being presented chronologically.

anyway, to work like a database it needs proper tagging and i still don't get it how you are going to tag them properly, how exactly successful tagged images add tags to older not-tagged images?

PS: EPIC FAIL, it isn't over 9000 yet ;(

I'm importing images which fall into discrete tags.

So, for example, I uploaded 50,000 Touhou images, tagged Touhou. I then upload a bunch of images tagged "yuri". Any of the Touhou images which are contained in this "yuri" batch will not be duped, but instead will pass their "yuri" tag on to the relevant Touhou images. So by working though characters, adjectives and series we can have a good skeleton for searching with.

I will devise a more sophisticated system later (or perhaps receive help with it)...

OMG, sophisticated... Very Sophisticated... (numbers)

how about Quen and Raiken?
It seems like your work is not like what Ive imagined...
I've started my own website, trying to be a good neighbor in this community.
I've been uploading all my pics in photobucket, it's really hard tagging every each picture... how about that tagging 50,000 images correctly? WTH!

I acknowledge you for your hard work... that's why Im not complaining to this....

so instead of uploading images and tag them you are kinda like "uploading" tags, seems more effective, but you still have to tag every single one... i pity you :P

I actually do very little on the Channel, the most I tend to do is try to remember to upload pictures I've used in news posts onto it, but I often fail at even that.
